“Facebook itself is not an innovative company,” Fils-Aimé stated. “They have either acquired interesting things like Oculus and Instagram, or they’ve been a fast follower of people’s ideas. “I don’t think their current definition will be successful,” Fils-Aimé concluded. On the other hand, Fils-Aimé believes smaller companies “that are really innovating” are pathing the way into the digital future. Originally known as ‘Stampede’, Motorstorm was originally envisioned as a celebration of dirt racing featuring asymmetric vehicle battles, massive tracks and complex physics simulation with up to 48 vehicles in a single race. The goal was to create something worthy of the ’next-generation’ label but there was just one problem - the next-generation platform it was being designed for was nowhere near ready and things would get a whole lot worse before they got better, and that’s where the infamous ’target render’ from Sony’s E3 2005 press conference comes into view....

RimWorld has, of course, made quite the mark on PC since its early access arrival all the way back in 2013 - partly for its wonderfully rich blend of management sim action and procedural storytelling, but equally for the way its complex systems can quickly tumble into outright debauchery, ranging from drug-fuelled cannibalism to non-consensual body harvesting. Word that a console version of RimWorld was finally on the way arrived in March, although notably not through official channels....

For those who need a refresh, Sable is an open-world game by Shedworks that’s coming to Xbox and PC later this year. You play as a young girl who leaves her clan as part of a rite-of-passage ceremony. This takes the form of a solo adventure across the desert, during which Sable must find a mask that represents her identity and role in society. The focus is very much on exploration and parkour, with no combat and a lot of bike-riding....

We knew something festive was happening following Kinetic Games’ tease of a patch called the Christmas [REDACTED] Update a couple of weeks back, but now it looks like the new addition - described in the patch notes only as a “strange new ghost type” - is on the loose. As for those cursed possessions? Initially, we only knew that they would include a tortured voodoo doll and a summoning circle, but we now know that the other items on the list that will spawn, at random, at the start of each contract also include a music box, haunted mirror, tarot cards, and ouija board (for which you now have to say goodbye to finish talking to a spirit “or else”…) “Several sightings have been noted of cursed objects, in locations where a ghost is haunting,” the update teases (thanks, PCGN)....

The green switches offer a great tactile but comfortable typing experience and there’s a multi-function roller which can be used for scrollling web pages or adjusting the volume, whatever floats your boat. The keyboard has doubleshot ABS keys, meaning they’re coated to last longer. Having a durable keyboard and not worrying about the letters rubbing off quickly sounds like an obvious solution to cheaper key caps. There’s also RGB chroma lighting packed here, so you can put on a show to jazz up your gaming setup....

We do, of course, already know much of what Season 6 has to offer thanks to Rare’s early 2022 blow-out, in which it detailed its ambitious plans for the year. If you missed that, though, the first big addition comes in the form of six Spanish-style sea forts dotted around the map. These imposing edifices, sucked into the Sea of Thieves as part of the game’s new ongoing storyline, essentially function as solo-friendly, on-demand World Events, serving up a swifter, more streamlined experience compared to the likes of Skeleton Forts....

This third entry in the delightfully gaudy rebooted FPS series - inspired by 3D Realms’ 1997 shooter Shadow Warrior - once again focuses on the adventures of protagonist Lo Wang, this time on a quest to recapture an ancient dragon unleashed from its eternal prison. Players can expect more of the Shadow Warrior series’ intoxicating blend of gun- and katana-based first-person combat for this third outing as Wang - with assistance from “former employer turned nemesis turned sidekick” Orochi Zilla - makes his way across Neo-Feudal Japan....

The Moon Museum is pretty small as museums go - it’s a piece of ceramic wafer, 19 by 13mm in size. It contains tiny images from six artists, and it’s attached - allegedly - to the Apollo 12 Lunar Module, Intrepid. That means it’s been up there and open to visitors since November 1969. Nice museum! What about sculpture? There’s some sculpture on the moon too. I first discovered the Fallen Astronaut several years back in the beautiful, mind-expanding Phaidon book, Universe: Exploring the Astronomical World....

A YouTube user with the nickname Menterial used Lewis Fiford’s Spider-Man (thanks, DSOG) to add everyone’s favourite neighbourhood superhero into the sprawling Matrix city. The footage of this demo, shared by DWR, sees Spider-Man doing much what you would expect....

We don’t always hear how well an Epic Games Store freebie has done - but it’s likely EA will be pleased by these numbers. As explained in EA’s blog post, the update promises improved framerates on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, with framerates now targeting 60FPS on all next-gen consoles (up from 45 FPS on Series S and PlayStation 5 prior to the update). Xbox Series X now features a performance mode with 60FPS and dynamic resolution in the range of 1080p to 1440p, while its normal “non-performance” mode should achieve a post-processing resolution of 4K and a dynamic resolution between 1512p to 2160p....

The secret to LoL of course is that this is, in fact, the game. The learning, and re-learning, and re-re-learning. You can play it without all that, under a veil of ignorance, and it will remain excellent: the cycle of earning gold and experience from killing enemies and popping minions like bubble-wrap, to use to buy more items and gain more levels, to more effectively kill enemies and on and on....

To try it out for yourself, all you need to do is select a game that supports the feature, then head over the Quick Access Menu and you should be ready to roll. As well as updating this feature, users will now also get a message letting them know when their Deck is running out of space. A notification will pop up when there is less than 2GB of space remaining....

The Last of Us Part 1 initially launched for PlayStation 5 back in September, giving Naughty Dog’s acclaimed 2013 stealth survival horror a significant makeover - and a PC version has been promised for quite some time. And now, as part of tonight’s Game Awards, Naughty Dog has slapped a PC release date on its celebrated remake, confirming it’ll be launching in March next year. There’s not much more to report at present, but even without specifics on the port, PC players should be in for a bit of a treat....
