As expected, this is the first video game set in the Star Wars franchise’s new High Republic era. The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley noted the game was still in early development - as evidenced, perhaps, by the entirely CGI trailer. Much of this had leaked previously, of course, but now it’s official. The affluent High Republic era is set around 200 years before the Skywalker Saga. (It’s not to be confused the Old Republic, set thousands of years prior....

As a dedicated helmet-head, I figured that Sony would be aiming for a price point somewhere around that of a PS5 so the figures it quoted as pre-order prices didn’t shock me too much. I’ve gone hands-on with the PSVR 2 in the past, so I know that it’s a high quality piece of kit and, with the addition of the Sense controllers in the package, that lofty price seemed about right to me....

Bowser looked like an absolute Boss with a capital B making his volcanic and egotistical entrance, the attempt at the penguins to defend their icy palace made me laugh, the koopa henchmen were as imposing but also as unthreatening as they are in the games (had slightly hoped to see one curl up into its shell and scoot back and forth across the ice, but you can’t win them all - I am sure we shall see some shell scooting in the film itself) and the Mushroom Kingdom looked absolutely jam-packed and beautiful....
