Shooting in time with the beat of the music deals more damage and builds up a multiplier, missing the beat does the opposite. This is something that sounds like it’s been around for ages, like it makes perfect sense, but in reality I can see why, outside of a couple of lesser-known indies, it hasn’t really been done before....
The foot-focussed collaboration, part of Microsoft’s ongoing celebrations to mark 20 years since the launch of the original Xbox, begins with the arrival of the Xbox 20th Forum Tech - a pair of trainers sporting “translucent green details” said to be inspired by the Halo: Combat Evolved special edition Xbox, released back in 2001. “The Adidas Forum Tech design balances nostalgia while embracing modern technology and is symbolic of how we look at our own Xbox history, celebrating the last 20 years and looking ahead to the limitless future of gaming”, says Microsoft of the bogey-green shoes in its official announcement over on Xbox Wire....
In an interview with the Financial Times, Nadella said the deal should be viewed in the context of the video games industry market - where Microsoft is not top dog. Far from gaining a monopoly, he suggested, Microsoft would simply be a “big” player in a “fragmented” market. When the deal is expected to be completed next year, Microsoft will be valued third in terms of video games industry players - behind both Sony and Tencent....
That’s according to sources at Windows Central, who claim the game is targeting a release some time during the first week of the month. There is also the suggestion of an early access period for the game as well. This will reportedly be something akin to that of Forza Horizon 5’s “premium edition” that offered owners a few bonus days of play ahead of the game’s official release. Redfall was initially due to launch last year....
As spotted by notorious Microsoft leaker Aggiornamenti Lumia and Windows Central, the in-progress app looks like it will let you add up to eight concurrent visual effects to custom imagery. You can then layer said effects over a timeline, creating an animated background for your PC or console. Microsoft took a little while to add dynamic backgrounds to Xbox, but there are now an array to choose from, including themes which nod back to the Xbox console family’s past, as well as to favourite franchises such as Halo....
That’s according to The Verge, which says the commitment was made in a letter from Xbox boss Phil Spencer to PlayStation head Jim Ryan earlier this year. “In January,” Spencer told the publication in a statement, “we provided a signed agreement to Sony to guarantee Call of Duty on PlayStation, with feature and content parity, for at least several more years beyond the current Sony contract, an offer that goes well beyond typical gaming industry agreements”....
Described as an action strategy game, this 2023 release sees you run about slashing away at Minecraft enemies in a bid to unite Minecraft’s overworld, whatever that means. Still, it looks intriguing and if it’s half as fun as Mojang’s Minecraft Dungeons, will be worth a try. As you’d expect, it’s coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one, and will launch for PC via Windows Store and Steam, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S....
Lance McDonald, who Eurogamer has covered multiple times for his varied work on the likes of P.T. and Bloodborne, found a cheat code in the early 2017 release that lets you skip to the last ending immediately after killing the first boss and unlock the bonus modes. Over the weekend, the English language Nier Twitter account congratulated McDonald for the discovery, and Nier Automata development chief Yoko Taro, who two years ago had teased there was still one final secret no-one had yet found in the game, shared the work, pointing out it took three years and 10 months for the cheat code to be discovered....

Hot on the heels of last week’s 2-minute gameplay trailer, EA celebrated Dead Space’s 14th anniversary today with an extended sequence from the remake’s third chapter, in which protagonist Isaac must explore the infested USG Ishimura in order to reach the ship’s engineering deck take and repair its engines. The sequence began in Ishimura’s hanger - an area that’s now much bigger than it was in the original (a side-by-side comparison made the differences abundantly clear) - with players now able to zero-g their way around the area....

The company promised updates and deep dives for 10 games coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, including new game announcements and updates on some of the third-party and indie titles shown off in June 2020’s PS5 showcase event. Expect the show to last around 30 minutes. Sony said there won’t be PlayStation hardware or business-focused updates during the show, so don’t expect to see the recently-announced new virtual reality headset....

That’s according to US comedian Adam Conover, who was working on a similar Nintendo project at the time. Speaking last night on The Serf Times podcast, as dug by up supererogatory , Conover says he was in talks with Nintendo to make a Star Fox claymation project inspired by Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox movie adaptation. But when The Wall Street Journal leaked word of the Zelda series, Nintendo got cold feet on the project - and all other plans to adapt its franchises....
According to Fanbyte writer Imran Khan, citing multiple sources familiar with the game’s development, Nintendo made the decision to begin work on a 1-2-Switch sequel - reportedly known as Everybody’s 1-2-Switch - after the the original shifted a respectable 3.45m copies. After several iterations, Nintendo is said to have settled on an idea inspired by the Jackbox Party Pack series for its 1-2-Switch sequel, where multiple players (up to 100 in some cases) could use their smartphones to compete in game-show-like mini-game challenges hosted by a man in a rubber horse mask....
