EA confirmed a new Criterion-developed Need for Speed game was in the works at the tail-end of 2020, slapping it with a vague release window of somewhere between April 2021 and the end of March this year. However, that launch was later delayed to EA’s fiscal year 2023, with the publisher announcing it had made the decision to move Criterion away from Need for Speed to help DICE “deliver the best [Battlefield] experience possible to our players”....

While there’s no firm schedule for release just yet, the official Watch Dogs Twitter account has recently begun responding to requests for the feature by stating that “the development team is working on adding this feature to the game with a later update”. “While crossplay and cross-generation-play is currently not available for the Watch Dogs: Legion Online Mode, the development team is working on adding this feature to the game with a later update,” a Ubisoft representative said in just one of several tweets made by the official social media account over the last few days....

The claim follows months of legal back and forth between cheat seller AimJunkies and Destiny developer Bungie, which has seen the former accused of both trademark and copyright infringement. AimJunkies has previously attempted to shrug off these claims, but has now gone one further. As reported by Torrentfreak, the cheat seller has now launched a countersuit which alleges Bungie accessed its computers for anti-cheat purposes via “clandestine surveillance” - effectively, that Bungie hacked it....

There’s still much we don’t know. Nvidia’s numbers cover a mere handful of games - so the actual value of RTX 4080 in its dual guises can only really be ascertained via hands-on testing with a much wider array of titles, plus the take-up of DLSS 3. There’s also good news with Dying Light 2’s performance upgrade for Xbox Series X owners with a variable refresh rate (VRR) display. This mode is curious. Essentially, VRR puts the GPU in control of when to refresh the screen rather than running at a standard 60Hz or 120Hz. Techland uses VRR plus 120Hz support to run Dying Light 2 in excess of the standard 60fps cap, seeing the game operate more typically at 80-100fps....

There’s also a fair bit of chat about the Switch OLED model and how Nintendo has essentially delivered a super-refined handheld with a beautiful screen that elevates the handheld experience considerably, but doesn’t address perennial issues with docked play. However, adding some spice to the mix is the reveal that the new dock features an HDMI 2.0 controller, meaning that - in theory at least - it can pass through an HDMI 2....

In a new report by The Washington Post, assembled after speaking with 15 current and former Blizzard employees, it’s claimed Diablo 4’s development was troubled from the off, with leadership at the time instilling the project with a “sense of inertia” as large parts of the game were constantly revamped and scrapped - including a planned battle royale mode. Talking to The Washington Post, team members laid much of the early blame at director Luis Barriga and lead designer Jesse McCree, both of who left the studio in 2021, amid serious allegations of institutionalised discrimination and harassment at Activision Blizzard....
