Wata appraises and rates the quality of collectible video games, often pushing their prices into the hundreds and thousands of dollars. To avoid any conflict of interest, it has previously stated it does not allow employees to have their own games graded or sell any that have been graded by the company. But, this week, Proof Games’ Seth Abramson discovered he had apparently bought several WATA-graded video games from an eBay seller that turned out to be Haspel....

None of those have been more publicly affected than Halo Infinite. There is a lingering sense that this is make-or-break for 343 Industries, which has done a decent job of imitating ‘real’ Halo without ever actually feeling real. The studio’s had a long time to focus on Infinite, announced at E3 2018 and in development since at least 2015, when Halo 5 launched, and so the wobbly reveal and subsequent departure of director Chris Lee has been troubling....

To start with, Zynga today released a nice CGI trailer which gives us a decent sense of the game’s style. Characters from across the Star Wars galaxy square off in tight arenas themed around familiar locales. You can play as a Sith, Jedi, Wookie and Mandalorian characters. In a nice touch, you can also play as a pair of Jawas balancing on each other’s shoulders. Actual gameplay of Hunters has also surfaced, as part of last night’s big Apple event where it popped up to advertise the new iPad mini....

Over the weekend, it was reported that Activision Blizzard was seemingly gauging players’ interest in cryptocurrency and NFT products through a YouGov survey. However, in response to an article about this alleged move, Ybarra simply replied, “No one is doing NFTs.” So, I guess that is that. NFTs have been a constant source of news in the gaming industry of late, with many controversial choices being made across the board....

As things currently stand, there’s not a lot of information to go on, with Activision only saying Blizzard is “planning substantial new content for the Warcraft franchise in 2022” that will see it deliver “all-new mobile Warcraft content into players’ hands for the first time”. The project is highlighted separately from World of Warcraft and Hearthstone, both of which will also be getting “new experiences” this year, according to Activision....

The idea here is pretty simple: take the ‘3D V-Cache’ technology that made AMD’s last-gen Ryzen 7 5800X3D so fast that it challenged even next-gen flagship CPUs, and pair it with some of AMD’s fastest Ryzen 7000 processors. The result is three new chips, the Ryzen 7800X3D, Ryzen 7900X3D and the Ryzen 7950X3D. All three come with dramatically increased cache sizes - 104MB of L2 and L3 cache on the Ryzen 7 and up to 144MB on the Ryzen 9 - which minimise the time CPUs spend waiting for data to be copied into the cache, increasing performance considerably in some games....

Montana - which will be American Truck Simulator’s tenth explorable state, joining California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, and Wyoming - launches next Thursday, 4th August, giving players the chance to admire its “glistening glacial lakes, snow-capped mountain peaks, blue-ribbon trout streams, and mighty Missouri, Yellowstone, and Flathead Rivers”, all from behind the wheel. The stream team founders GeekyCassie and Ebonix will be captains of two teams comprising twelve women who will go head to head in a series of offbeat challenges celebrating six games from this year’s awards. The challenge will take place on the BAFTA Twitch channel on 31st March at 2pm UK time. Six BAFTA nominated games will be played: Chicory: A Colorful Tale, Halo Infinite, It Takes Two, Mario Party Superstars, Returnal and Unpacking....

Fallout 76’s Free Play week kicks off tomorrow, 4th October, giving players on all platforms the chance to explore post-nuclear Appalachia without making a purchase until 11th October. Prime Gaming subscribers, meanwhile, can get the PC version of Fallout 76 for nowt as part of their membership, starting today, 3rd October, until 1st November. Evidentally, the vast majority of Bethesda’s Fallout celebrations will be focused on Fallout 76, with the studio also set to give Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers a month of Fallout 1st - the paid membership service that includes access to the likes of private servers - via Xbox Game Pass Perks until 24th October....

With all the practice we’ve had, it stands to reason that we’d be pretty good at surviving a spirit-based onslaught by now, but how did we fare as a team of ghost hunters when we were pitted against actual players in the role of vengeful ghosts, rather than some clunky AI? Last week we were given 20 minutes to try out the second closed beta for Midnight Ghost Hunt and we’ve busted out the gameplay from that session so that you can witness all the non-corporeal chaos for yourself....

The video, below, also reveals a raft of new operators coming to the game, as well as new weapons. Spotted in use is a crossbow, the minigun scorestreak, what looks like a new submachine gun, and the Galil assault rifle from Black Ops games of old. New operators are revealed, including a mysterious sunglasses fan called Naga (perhaps someone at Activision is into Warcraft). Story-wise (yes, Warzone and Black Ops and Modern Warfare and Zombies are all in the same timeline now), the trailer takes us to Laos in Southeast Asian in a Woods-led rescue mission dated 19th April 1984....

Earlier this year CD Projekt announced it had been hit by a ransomware attack, and last week we began to hear reports this stolen data was being actively shared online. Several developer-made bug montages emerged from this, but source code for several CD Projekt games (including The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077) is also reported to have been shared, and CD Projekt is concerned employee and contractor data is caught up in this....

Back in 2021 they teased the project - a “2D explor-action game in a seamless pixel art world”. Now we’ve seen it in action. Watch on YouTube Earthblade - Game Awards Reveal The footage shown at The Game Awards introduces lead character Névoa, “an enigmatic child of Fate returning at long last to Earth”. Platforming is once again at the core of the game, but now with combat alongside exploration....

This lone gaming hour will also be allowed on public holidays, The National Press and Publication Administration announced (thanks, BBC News). These new curbs are the latest steps in the Chinese state’s battle against online gaming, which has been dubbed “spiritual opium” for the country’s youth. Online gaming companies will have to enforce these time limits within their games, and inspections of developers by the Chinese government will be stepped up....
