Xbox engineer Eden Marie confirmed the update had begun rolling out last night: Xbox console owners in the Alpha Skip Ahead preview group got the ability to add their background from an Edge browser back in December....

Nagoshi, known as the father of the Super Monkey Ball and Yakuza series, left Sega in 2021 after 32 years at the company to join Chinese technology company NetEase. He later announced Nagoshi Studio, a subsidiary under NetEase Games, which would allow him to “do something different”. In an interview with German gaming site 4Players, Nagoshi said it had not been creative differences that had led him to leave Sega, but that during his last few years at the company he was promoted to executive and management roles - something he wasn’t interested in....

Officially licensed by Sega, the Ryū ga Gotoku/Yakuza Statue is a “highly detailed replica statue, from the paintwork to Kiryu’s bicycle itself” and stands at an impressive 10.5" (26.7cm) tall. It also include a “intricate” base “with classic Yakuza props from the game”. The Yakuza spin-off, which first came out as a PlayStation 4-exclusive back in 2019, launches on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Stadia on 23rd April 2021 with “refined visuals”, 60fps, improved load times and all the previously-released DLC. The new trailer is below: The announcement of the game for Stadia and not PC has certainly raised eyebrows, coming as it does hot on the heels of Google’s own announcement that it is shutting down its internal Stadia studios and offering its streaming tech to publishers....

Well, that is, until you get the modding community involved. Yes, a new mod developed by Kirbymimi finally brings a split screen multiplayer experience to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. British programmer Giles Goddard, who worked on a number of games in the 90s including Starfox 64 and 1080° Snowboarding, has shared footage of portals in an early build of the game. He had previously revealed their existence in an interview with MinnMax, but yesterday also shared actual footage in a tweet. While it looks a little like the Forest Temple, Goddard clarified he simply asked an artist for some test data to use....

The latest Insider Flight update for Halo: The Master Chief Collection came out last week, and with it an email to those in the programme detailing the under-the-radar improvements. 343 mentioned the patch includes “a series of bug fixes to improve the classic visuals in H1 to better mirror the original Xbox version”. This applies to both classic campaign and multiplayer, 343 added. Halo: Combat Evolved came out on PC in September 2003, two years after it was released on the original Xbox as a launch title....

Cities: VR is the work of developer Fast Travel Games and aims to deliver the breadth and depth of Colossal Order’s celebrated city management title, giving players control of urban planning, traffic flow, utilities, emergency services, entertainment, the economy, and more. As part of Cities: VR’s announcement, creative director Erik Odeldahl offered a brisk video walkthrough of some of the management sim’s freshly VR-ified features, providing a look at its interface - reworked for virtual reality controllers - alongside other snippets of gameplay, showcasing both the birds-eye management view and a more up-close-and personal perspective for players that want to enjoy their creations from ground level....

The coffee shop stuff inevitably reminds me of Coffee Talk, and Affogato has captured the same evening setting, sparkling with all its urban promise. It’s fun trying to make drinks properly, remembering the differences between them and mastering the intricacies of seasoning. But the game properly comes alive in the battles. Affogato calls this system a sort of reverse tower-defense, and it calls to mind another reverse tower-defense game that I haven’t thought about in years: Anomaly: Warzone Earth....

Age of Discovery is the first of two events this season and involves completing a number of tasks for unique items. Another major addition is the ability to choose map preferences for quick match and ranked multiplayer games. The new system will allow players to downvote maps, so the map with the least downvotes will be selected....

In a lengthy blog post on the official website, the team explained how “expedition mutators” will improve challenge and enjoyment of the game for those who’ve already experienced much of what the MMO has to offer. “Mutators change the familiar by augmenting ‘Normal’ and ‘Named’ Enemies found within expeditions, changing the way encounters play out and what strategies players should consider before battle,” the team said. “This system is intended to rotate through a unique combination of Expeditions and Mutations each week, with 10 difficulty levels per Expedition Mutation....

The latest patch, Version 2.0.4., fixes a number of issues in the base game and DLC. The nude glitch isn’t specifically mentioned, presumably as it’s not something Nintendo wishes to acknowledge. However, as reported by Comic Book and Animal Crossing World, the glitch has now been fixed. As we previously reported, the nude glitch would sometimes occur in the cafe of the Happy Home Paradise DLC, although it was unknown exactly why it occurred....
