Word of an updated trilogy release - focussing on remasters of Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City, and San Andreas - first surfaced over the summer, but its existence became considerably more tangible after a Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy listing was spotted on the South Korea’s game rating board website at the end of September. If further doubts of an imminent release remained, they were swiftly quashed this week when new achievement icons were discovered following an update to Rockstar’s very own launcher....

Also joining it will be The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. Both games will be free to download between 7th to 14th April from the Epic Games Store. However, Currys have Xenoblade Chronicles 3 available at a pre-order discount of 15 per cent. This takes the game from £44.99 to £38.24. To get the discount, all you have to do is add the code ‘XENO15’ once the game is in your shopping basket. The game is expected to arrive on July 29th....

There are nearly 200 different games and DLCs with discounts in the full Humble Summer Sale, including Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Deep Rock Galactic: Deluxe Edition, and No Man’s Sky which are all half price so you can start exploring space for less. There are even bigger discounts on popular games like Doom Eternal which has a 60 per cent discount, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition is also 60 per cent off down to just £18, and the enormous Sid Meier’s Civilization VI Anthology Edition has an equally large 70 per cent discount making it just over £25....

That’s according to Sega’s Japanese Twitter account, which recently posted an “urgent notice” that information about Sega’s new project will be delivered on 3rd June 2022. The accompanying link points to Sega’s official YouTube channel, which says all will be revealed via a livestream on Friday 3rd June, at 8pm Japan time, which is 12 noon here in the UK. The broadcast will reportedly include appearances from Hiroyuki Miyazaki and Yosuke Okunari, and be hosted by Misuzu Araki....

The move piles more public pressure on the company - and particularly its board, which has so far stood by controversial CEO Bobby Kotick. The sequel to 2017’s Slime Rancher will continue the story of Beatrix LeBeau. This time, she will see her adventures take her across the Slime Sea to the mysterious shores of Rainbow Island. The trailer, below, confirms Mai, Kyo, Leona, K’, Benimaru and Shun’ei all return. King of Fighters 15 is due out at some point in 2021. Platforms are yet to be announced. SNK said it will reveal more with a new trailer on 10th January. Producer Yasuyuki Oda and creative director Eisuke Ogura offered some comments on King of Fighters 15 in a longer SNK video published yesterday. Ogura says “we’re focusing on keeping the series’ staple of being fast-paced while also adding elements to make it more exciting”....

Right at the bottom of the catalogue is a section called “Last chance to play”. Currently there are two games listed: PS4 game Shadow Warrior 3 and PS3 game Syberia. The former is set to leave the Extra catalogue on 5th July 2022 - although it’s been on PS Now since 1st March - while the latter will leave Premium on 19th July 2022. In a tweet posted to Twitter and spotted by VGC, Kishimoto intimated that although the team was “relieved” that the game was finally out and in the hands of players, it was “checking the opinions of the critics and everyone” and still had “a long way to go”. “I’m sorry I couldn’t contact you because I’ve been busy since the release date,” Kishimoto tweeted to their followers, as translated by Google....

As part of its Play and Plant initiative, Sony will plant a tree for every player who receives the Reached the Daunt trophy in the game. In partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, Sony will contribute to three reforestation projects in the US: Douglas County Forest, Sheep Fire Private Lands, and Torreya State Park. Players will have until 25th March to earn the trophy, which is unlocked early on as part of the main story....

As reported by Business Insider (paywall), which cites three people involved with Sony plans as its sources, the company is currently investigating ways to encourage developers to continue making free-to-play games - said to have soared in popularity during the pandemic - by providing new ways to monetise them. At present, PlayStation’s ad inventory is said to be limited to in-menu ads - which can be used by publishers and developers to do things like promote their own games on the PlayStation Store - and ads served via streaming video on certain apps....

Earlier in the week, Garrett Fredley announced his role as senior build engineer in PlayStation’s “newly created Preservation team”. As speculation grew on what this meant, Fredley has followed up by sharing a 2019 video from GDC on what preservation means. “For anyone asking what Game Preservation is / what I do, I did a GDC talk a few years ago on the subject when I worked at EA,” he stated on Twitter....
