PC Building Simulator, which normally goes for £14.99, became Epic’s weekly free game at 5pm on Thursday, 7th October. Then, just after 8pm yesterday, 8th October, Epic tweeted to say PC Building Simulator had already been claimed by over 4 million players. It’s an astonishingly popular giveaway for a game that launched first in January 2019. PC Building Simulator, which was created by Romanian indie developer Kiss Claudiu and published by The Irregular Corporation, does exactly what it says on the tin: it lets you build and grow your own computer repair business as you learn to diagnose, fix and build PCs....

Game director Aaron Keller announced the feature during Blizzard’s latest developer update, working through some of the special matchmaking rules that’ll be introduced once cross-play arrives for PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC. Essentially, while parties of console-only players will continue to be placed with other consoles players during matchmaking, and those on PC will continue to be placed with other PC players, mixed teams will be placed in the PC matchmaking pool....

There’s a lot going on in Phasmophobia’s Apocalypse Update, starting with the arrival of the new Sunny Meadows Mental Institution map - an entirely reworked, more visually interesting, and, crucially, more compact version of the game’s previously released Asylum map. A recent poll suggested smaller maps were high on the list of players’ wants, and - intentionally or otherwise - the Apocalypse Update seems to be delivering on that front....

Publisher Versus Evil announced its plans to cancel its Switch version of the game on Discord. “Hey there! Unfortunately, after much deliberation, we have decided not to move forward with Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire for the Nintendo Switch”, Versus Evil wrote (via reddit). It was first announced that Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire would be coming to the Switch all the way back in 2018. Since then, however, the game was delayed, and then it just sort of fell off the radar....

This move will come into effect on 1st August. Sony has not given a reason for this decision. Once this service comes to a close, PlayStation users will need to get in contact with customer support through the company’s online site. Elsewhere in the news, Sony recently unveiled its new look PlayStation Plus subscription service....

Speaking as part of an investor presentation transcribed by Eurogamer, Sony exec Hiroki Totoki said Bungie would aid PlayStation in this major expansion of live service game development. “The strategic significance of this acquisition lies not only in obtaining the highly successful Destiny franchise, as well as major new IP Bungie is currently developing, but also incorporating into the Sony group the expertise and technologies Bungie has developed in the live game services space,” Totoki said....

In response to continued questions over whether Microsoft owning Call of Duty would unfairly hobble PlayStation, Microsoft claimed that every COD player on PlayStation could move over to Xbox, and Sony’s playerbase would still remain “significantly larger” than its own. Microsoft does not go into detail on its mental arithmetic here, but does note elswhere in its comments that PlayStation currently has a console install base of 150 million, compared to Xbox’s install base of 63....

During this Pokémon Go questline, you’ll be able to catch the legendary Pokémon - Cosmog. This Pokémon hails from Gen 7 and can eventually evolve into either Solgaleo or Lunala. An initial day available to all players globally will take place on Saturday, 26th February - this was already announced and detailed. A separate, second day featuring in-person events with themed habitats will then be held on Sunday, 27th February. You can pre-register for the game now ahead of it launching “soon” via a beta in certain countries, during which time the game will be tested and improved upon. From a vague description released today, it sounds like the game will offer PVP battling and location control - both stalwarts of Pokémon Go....

Collection Challenges task you with catching a specific Pokémon during in-game events in Pokémon Go. The Johto Collection Challenge focuses on Gen 2 Pokémon that are native to the Johto region. These Pokémon can be found by hatching eggs, completing Johto Celebration field research tasks, catching from them in the wild or from raids. Like all Mega Evolutions, Mega Lopunny can’t be directly caught in Pokémon Go. Legends: Arceus, a prequel to the main Pokémon game series, will debut Kleavor, a previously-unseen evolution for original Kanto creature Scyther. Fire starter Fuecoco has been branded as “broken” by proponents of Pokémon’s “Nuzlocke” style of gameplay - the fan-invented method of playing Pokémon which essentially amounts to permadeath. Any Pokémon which faints in a Nuzlocke run is considered dead and must be released back into the wild.
