It looks like a child’s imagination exploded all over the screen. Mutated animals tear about, kung-fuing gigantic monsters with three heads, which are also adorable, and there are outlandish contraptions, DIY guns and vehicles to use. There’s one vehicle that looks like a hand and moves around like Thing from The Addams Family, and finger-guns enemies dead. There are others that fly through the air or speed across the water, as you whizz around over-saturated and kaleidoscopically vibrant worlds....

Last night Sarah was busy, so I fired it up alone. I wanted to check out the new GTA Online Criminal Enterprises update. But this is important for what follows: I don’t regularly play the game myself. I watch it from the sofa a lot, but I almost never pick up the controller. Criminal Enterprises brings quite a lot to GTA Online as far as I can tell. New weapons and new vehicles are just the start of it....

I am a big The Last of Us fan (something you may have noticed), and have watched this trailer multiple times already. The news helps explain Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive’s recent GTA mod takedown spree - particular mods that recreated the games in question. But it also helps explain why Rockstar nuked a San Andreas fan remake trailer in July 2020, too. Last summer, Eurogamer reported on a fan-made trailer showing Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas “remade” in Unreal Engine 4. It was simply that: a trailer, not a game or a mod of any kind....

The company has yet to officially trumpet the date, but it was live for a while on Ubisoft’s store (thanks, Gematsu) ahead of today’s Nintendo Direct, which is scheduled for 2pm UK time. Today’s announcement stream is set to feature third-party games for Nintendo Switch - of which Sparks of Hope is a prime example. It seems likely we’ll see this made official then. Mario + Rabbids is a mash-up of company mascots in a tight, turn-based strategy game filled with humour and Mushroom Kingdom colour....

However, those in need of an incentive to play are in luck - with multiple car parts yet to unlock, provided you can gather enough coins. Despite only having a one-star difficulty, it has seen many players stumped. There are two main challenges here - one is finding a Stone to carry with you to the end, and the other is getting past a high wall that seemingly won’t let you or the Stone pass through - and our Buried Stones solution will explain how to do both. Let’s start by finding the Stone. Play through the level as normal, going past all the Thwomps, until you get to a pipe that spits out a Yoshi egg....

Liara’s speech - portrayed as ever by Ali Hillis - was decoded by Soundcloud user Mosaic Horse. BioWare has since provided its own cleaned-up version: “I can see it… How did we miss this?” Liara can be heard saying. “Exactly, the Council will be furious… although they should know by now not to underestimate human defiance.” As you’d expect, the teaser only throws up further questions. Why is Liara working with the geth?...

The original Metroid Prime on GameCube had previously been the series’ biggest seller, which Dread has now dethroned. Metroid Dread has now shifted 2.9m copies worldwide since its launch in October last year. Metroid Prime was previously reported to have sold 2.8m. While positive news for Metroid fans, it’s worth putting in perspective alongside recent launches in other Nintendo franchises. In the past 12 months, the HD re-release of Zelda: Skyward Sword sold 3....

The statement comes in documents pertaining to Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which have just been released. In Microsoft’s response to the CMA’s Issues Statement, it claims the proposed merger is pro-competitive due to Sony’s standing as the dominant platform holder. Watch on YouTube Pentiment announcement trailer “In addition to being the dominant console provider, Sony is also a powerful game publisher,” reads the response from Microsoft. “Sony is roughly equivalent in size to Activision and nearly double the size of Microsoft’s game publishing business....

Warface: Breakout and Vicious Attack Llama Apocalypse are the two Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S games. Via backward compatibility, Metal Slug 3 and Port Royale 3 are also available. Warface: Breakout is a tactical shooter spin-off from Crytek’s free-to-play first-person shooter. It came out in May 2020 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Vicious Attack Llama Apocalypse is a roguelike-lite-ish couch co-op top-down twin-stick shooter that came out in 2018....

Governmental scrutiny of Microsoft’s acquisition has grown in recent weeks, with the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority announcing it was moving to a more in-depth “phase 2” of its investigation, having determined the acquisition would give rise to the “realistic prospect of a substantial lessening of competition in gaming consoles, multi-game subscription services, and cloud gaming services.” Sony, too, has grown increasingly vocal over the proposed deal, particularly as it pertains to potential console exclusivity around the likes of Call of Duty....

Flight Simulator’s Top Gun expansion was announced last June as part of the Xbox and Bethesday Showcase. It was initially due to launch last November along the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick movie but was delayed when Paramount Pictures made the decision to postpone the film’s release into this year. Asobo has yet to fully detail what Flight Simulator players can expect from its free Top Gun expansion, but we do know it’ll include the F-18 among other things, and aims to give players first-hand experience of “what it’s like to be a US Navy Top Gun”....

First up, Microsoft said it’s working to put Xbox in TVs. The company is working with TV manufacturers to “embed” the Xbox experience directly into internet-connected televisions with no extra hardware required except a controller. Related, Xbox said it is building its own streaming devices for cloud gaming “to reach gamers on any TV or monitor without the need for a console at all”. Microsoft did not detail these devices, but it sounds like a Chromecast-style dongle could be on the cards....

The Easter egg in question is written in very, very, small text, and can be found on the side of one of the map’s exhibits. While at first glance it may simply look like standard and somewhat generic writing informing in-game tourists about this and that, it is actually a note from one of the game’s texture artists masquerading as part of the exhibition. It acknowledges those who take the time to have a closer look at “incidental signage such as this”, and implores Call of Duty players to “keep looking” for the extra little details development teams add to their games....

We already knew the Seething Bazelguese and Lucent Nargacuga would be arriving as part of Sunbreak’s first post-launch update, but Capcom has now revealed two more additions in the form of the Silver Rathalos and Gold Rathian, with all four becoming available at Master Rank 10. The Lucent Nargacuga, which returns to the series for the first time since making its unforgettable debut in Monster Hunter Ultimate 3, can reflect the moonlight to turn invisible, and is found in the new Forlorn Arena - a reinterpretation of its original moonlit home....
