The new season will bring a new Solstice event (that’s right, just Solstice) for Destiny 2, an Event Card system, and a vault storage increase from 500 to 600. There will be plenty of changes to Iron Banner as well, now that Lord Saladin is in a new role at the end of the current season. There’s also the usual level increase and Exotics to look forward to. Earlier today, however, an alleged marketing and brand guide leaked online, revealing that a new multi-platform instalment, Arma Reforger, is on the way to PC. It looks like it’s set to come to Xbox and PlayStation consoles, too, although the wording is a tad confusing, so it’s possible the PS4 and PS5 release will come “in the future”. The leak intimates that the company is set to announce Arma 4 alongside Reforger, which has been called a “more focused” title that will “introduce Arma to a new console-oriented audience” with a “very strong multiplayer focus” that will “test new technology and design decisions to form the foundation for Arma 4....

The biggest challenge facing us concerned the PC version - hence Alex’s dismay - which launched in a completely unacceptable state, rife with stuttering problems that swiftly condemned the game’s Steam rating and rendered the title basically unplayable. We reported these issues to the developer as and when we discovered them and were told they’d be addressed - but we couldn’t actually confirm whether this was the case until the arrival of the day one patch (improvements were slight)....

That’s according to reliable app store analytics firm Sensor Tower, which compared Diablo Immortal’s start to that of Pokémon Go (which took just two weeks to rake in $100m) and Fire Emblem Heroes (10 weeks). Diablo Immortal revenues now seem set to accelerate, since the app arrived belatedly in China this week. In China, Diablo Immortal ranked as the most-downloaded game via the Apple App Store for its first two days, and among the top three highest-grossing titles for both....

Breakthrough on the season’s new map Exposure will get a dedicated playlist alongside the dedicated Conquest playlist already available. This will make it easier for players to play Breakthrough on Exposure, as its currently based on pure luck. The Exodus Conquest playlist, which lets players use 2042’s Specialists in the remastered maps from older Battlefield titles, will be removed for now to make room. This week’s missions have new challenges catered towards Breakthrough, including inflicting damage with primary weapons, getting kills with shotguns, and capturing objectives....

This Ultimate Team-focused pre-order bonus relates to coveted Ones to Watch cards - special versions of players who made high-profile summer transfers. Examples this year include Lionel Messi, who moved from Barcelona to PSG, and Cristiano Ronaldo, who left Juventus for Manchester United. These OTW cards see in-game players upgraded based on real-life performances. Each Wednesday, EA releases a Team of the Week squad that contains players who stood out in their leagues the previous weekend....

From Software’s hotly-anticipated action RPG - for which Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin has contributed to the world-building - surpassed Techland’s Dying Light 2: Stay Human earlier this week to secure the top spot as Steam’s most-wanted game. Although Valve stops short at providing hard numbers to evidence the list, Steam DB’s chart - which can sometimes differ to Valve’s own metrics - makes the same claim, too....

Announcing the deal on its website, Mediatonic called the move a “huge win for Fall Guys”, claiming that joining Epic “will accelerate our plans to improve the game and bring Fall Guys to as many players as possible, while continuing to support the community.” According to the developer, it’ll be business as usual for Fall Guys following the acquisition - “each season, we’ll continue to expand…with new content, features, rounds, and costumes”, it writes - and the game will remain available on Steam and the PlayStation Store....

In a statement shared on the Bandcamp blog, co-founder and CEO Ethan Diamond explained the company will continue operating as a standalone marketplace and music community following the acquisition, and that he’ll continue in the role of CEO. “The products and services you depend on aren’t going anywhere,” Diamond wrote. “We’ll continue to build Bandcamp around our artists-first revenue model (where artists net an average of 82% of every sale), you’ll still have the same control over how you offer your music, Bandcamp Fridays will continue as planned, and the Daily will keep highlighting the diverse, amazing music on the site....

Last weekend, building was removed from the game temporarily. New movement abilities were added in too - a faster sprint, mantling, and a shoulder bash - as well as an overshield. Now, following the rumours, the change has been made permanent. “No building, no problem! It’s all about your combat skills on the ground” reads a tweet from the official Fortnite account. It’s accompanied by a new trailer full of explosive action....

MetaHuman Creator takes the form of a browser-based app, plumbed into Unreal Engine Pixel Streaming. Vladimir Mastilovic, VP of Digital Humans Technology at Epic, described the initial process to us as being as simple as playing a game, with no programming knowledge required as developers create and sculpt their digital actors - you get a sense of that in the video below. As changes and enhancements are made, MetaHuman Creator intelligently uses data from its cloud-based library to extrapolate a realistic digital person....

The sheer fact Rockstar had been hacked in this manner was itself shocking - but the damage felt worse due to the negative comments this work-in-progress content then received. A Valve spokesperson told Eurogamer: “During the seven year investigation, Valve cooperated extensively with the European Commission (“EC”), providing evidence and information as requested. However, Valve declined to admit that it broke the law, as the EC demanded. Valve disagrees with the EC findings and the fine levied against Valve. “The EC’s charges do not relate to the sale of PC games on Steam - Valve’s PC gaming service. Instead the EC alleges that Valve enabled geo-blocking by providing Steam activation keys and - upon the publishers’ request - locking those keys to particular territories (“region locks”) within the EEA....

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 characters Pyra and Mythra were also announced as the latest faces to join Super Smash Bros. Ulimate. Mention was made of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, but only to say that more detail would arrive later in 2021. To be clear, Nintendo did not confirm whether the game would actually release in 2021.
