It’ll be priced £34.99/$39.99/€39.99, or existing PS4 owners can upgrade for $10/€10/£TBA. Oddly there’s no word on an Xbox Series X/S version with these same features (though there is a free patch available to bump up its frame-rate). Multiplayer has been bumped up to 24 players, while the game runs “with a wonderful 4K resolution at a smooth 60 frames per second”. Back in 2019, Eurogamer petrolhead Martin noted that the PS4 version had “excruciatingly long” loading times and a frame-rate “well short of 60fps”, though he still recommended the game overall....

There really is only one game series that is able to fully capture that feeling. The Kamurocho map in Yakuza has been a staple since the PS2 entries. With new console generations and new engines, this fictional red-light district in the heart of Tokyo has received many face-lifts, but to those familiar with the series coming back always feels the same. Not at all in a bad way. It’s easy to imagine the outrage any other open-world series would face if the developers announced they would re-use the map, but the Yakuza fanbase welcomes this very same decision....

Mass Effect’s iconic SSV Normandy SR1 appears in No Man’s Sky as a reward for players that complete the space sim’s currently ongoing second Expedition. Expeditions, if you’re unfamiliar, are something like No Man’s Sky’s take on live-service seasons, each one beginning by depositing all players on the same planet. From there, participants must work their way across the universe by following an accompanying Expedition chart and completing different phases of challenges, known as Milestones, along the way - perhaps reaching specific rendezvous points or collecting ancient artefacts....

Writing in his newly-published Disrupting the Game memoir, Fils-Aimé said he was surprised to hear of plans for Game Boy Micro relatively late in its development, and despite Nintendo having moved on to focus on Game Boy Advance’s successor, Nintendo DS. In a section of the book posted online by VGC, Fils-Aimé also said he disliked the Micro’s form factor. Overall, it was a “distraction”, he concluded - something which he later moved to ensure became a “teachable moment” and not repeated....

It’s that community I watched in action this week at the accessibility in games conference, or GAConf for short, and I’ve rarely been around a more engaged or supportive group of people. The conference is having something of a moment, because, wonderfully, the tide of accessibility in games seems to be turning. The Last of Us Part 2 - the sparkling diamond of accessibility and deservedly so - as well as Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Gears of War 5, Watch Dogs: Legion, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, and Remedy’s Control, are all setting industry-leading examples of what good accessibility in games can look like....

Ace Attorney Investigations 2 is a bizarre quirk in an already bizarre series. The original Investigations game is a spinoff featuring Miles Edgeworth, a fan favourite from the original trilogy. It puts his emotional arc at its centre, ending up much more character-focused than the mainline games. The sequel, released in 2011, follows suit, rehashing some areas but extending the thematic resonance of others. It is also the only one of the 11 Ace Attorney games that has not been officially localised....

An advert for one game, Refantasia: Charm and Conquer, is described as having featured an “anime-style image of a young woman in a cage” in shackles and with torn clothing, which was singled out for particular criticism. Captions referenced “my master” and were accompanied by text which described the person as a “little girl”. The ASA judged the character as being someone under 18 represented in a sexual manner. In response, Refantasia’s developer Oasis Games said it was a Chinese company which published games internationally, and had conducted an investigation which “revealed a disconnect between their marketing team and their localisation team” which it had now “taken action to address”....

The face paint is also accessible in Photo Mode and adds LGBT+ colours. It’s welcome support for the community, even outside of Pride Month. Elsewhere, Patch 1.18 provides a number of tweaks and bug fixes. Official multiplayer support, which SCS is calling Convoy for self-explanatory reasons, is available now as part of American Truck Simulator’s experimental beta update 1.41, and will be making its way to Euro Truck Simulator 2 at a later date. Once installed, this initial work-in-progress version of Convoy will enable players to set-up and host their own private multiplayer session for up to eight trucking pals. Everyone in a session will see synchronised time, weather, and AI traffic - as well as their trucking buddies’ paint jobs and truck accessories - and can undertake the same contracts from the same companies, all heading to the same destination....

Unveiled at this evening’s Game Awards, this mode comes as part of Among Us’ “biggest update this year”. This update, which goes live today (9th December) across all platforms, will offer “new surprises to survive from, a beanload of new cosmetics and pets,” the ability to “pet your pets” and, of course, “screaming”. Meanwhile, earlier this evening we also got confirmation that Returnal is coming to PC, as well as news of a Dead Cells Castlevania DLC and a brand new Valiant Hearts mobile game....

Nintendo has already confirmed that pigeon barista Brewster and his The Roost cafe will be returning, seemingly accessible from within the museum. It’s no coincidence that 15th October is also Brewster’s birthday. So far little else is known about new content, though with 20 minutes to fill this should be a sizeable addition....

Hue, if you’re unfamiliar, is puzzle adventure that sees players wandering a grey world and using their colour-based powers to push ever forward. Puzzles are largely built around the ability to change the background colour of the world, either causing previously invisible objects to be made visible or to colour-match obstacles so they disappear. Developer Fiddlesticks Games expands on that premise to deliver an experience that’s as sweet as it is clever - and Xbox Live Gold subscribers can grab it as part of Games With Gold from 16th April to 15th May....

Our first look at polished Aragami 2 gameplay lies in the new trailer below, which shows a new threat for the Rashomon Valley and various ninja-inspired fights. The original Aragami sold 700k copies and helped grow Lince Works as a studio, the developer said in a release today, meaning Aragami 2 is now the work of a more experienced and larger team. Combat has been overhauled, and looks sneakier than ever....

Calico, for Xbox One and Series X/S, serves up some wholesome life sim action in which players are tasked with rebuilding the local town’s cat cafe - choosing its decor, baking its food, and filling it with an assortment of not necessarily feline creatures to bring in the customers. It’ll be available as part of Games with Gold from between 1st and 31st August. ScourgeBringer, Games with Gold’s second Xbox One and Series X/S title for the month, is a “fast-paced free-moving roguelite platformer” that sees players, in the role of deadly warrior Kyhra, slashing and shooting their way through a post-apocalyptic world in a bid to save humanity....
