Before we get into it, if you’ve already purchased an external hard drive for PS4, you should have no issues using one of these for your PS5 as well. It may need to be reformatted when you plug it in (which will wipe all current data on the drive) but after that quick process, you’ll be good to go. If, perhaps, you’ve upgraded your PS4 with an internal hard drive, you could also consider buying a cheap hard drive enclosure and converting it to an external drive....

Nintendo Switch Sports launches with six sports. Tennis, chambara and bowling will be familiar to fans of the series, although there are a few tweaks throughout. Football, badminton and volleyball are new. (Golf is coming as a free update in the autumn.) Today I’ll focus on the new games to keep things brisk, but I’ll cover the complete package of games in the final review. Badminton is the most familiar of the new games....

New events have been introduced, with big races at Le Mans, Sardegna and Tokyo Expressway slotting in alongside other tweaked races towards the end of the campaign that now all deliver bigger payouts. There are new 1 hour endurance events available once you’ve reached Collector Level 23 – all coming under ‘The Human Comedy’ banner, which is rather apt for the discipline – while online events will also now offer bigger payouts....

Currys reduced the Halo Infinite Edition Razer BlackWidow V3 to £139 just before Christmas, but it has since been discounted even more. It’s now just £120 - that’s £60 cheaper than buying it directly from Razer’s website. Currys has also reduced the Halo Infinite-themed Razer gaming mouse to £55 (was £75). A fiver has also been knocked off the Halo Edition Razer Goliathus Extended Chroma Gaming Surface - making it £55 (£25 cheaper than directly from Razer)....

The last time a pop-up was held in the UK was from 19th October to 15th November back in 2019 at Westfield Shepherd’s Bush location. This year, the pop-up will be held alongside the Pokémon World Championships at ExCeL London from 17th to 21st August. The Pokémon World Championships is an invite-only esports event run by The Pokémon Company, but the store will be open for anyone to attend. The previous pop-up at Shepherd’s Bush proved hugely popular, with some visitors reporting a six-hour wait to get into the shop....

The Rock, of course, already exists in Fortnite as one of the game’s original characters - The Foundation - and has leant his role and likeness to the hero since March last year. Now he’ll appear in character as Black Adam, to tie in with his appearance in the film of the same name, which is set to launch in cinemas next week. Epic Games has not played up the fact that Johnson is already a core member of Fortnite’s growing cast - one which also includes The Last of Us voice actor Troy Baker and Captain Marvel star Brie Larson....

EA first revealed it had started dabbling with story progression for The Sims 4 (a feature it’s now referring to as Neighbourhood Stories) last November, explaining there was “a lot we want to do” to bring more life to the world outside of active households. Its first Neighbourhood Stories release played it cautiously, only permitting a Neighbour Sim to make a life change - such as having a baby or changing jobs - if directly influenced by the player or once a player had given explicit permission in response to a request....

French publisher Microids announced the imminent release of Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission, officially licensed by Taito and due out on consoles this autumn. It’s also coming to VR in 2023. All we have on this new game for now is a handful of screenshots, below, which show a new cartooney art style compared to the cult classic late-’80s arcade shooter. I’m sure this one’s going to prove divisive. Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission, developed by French studio Virtuallyz Gaming, lets you play campaign solo or two-player co-op locally as special agents trying to fight a criminal organisation led by General Viper....

This SanDisk Ultra micro SDXC card has a class 10 rating, with transfer speeds of up to 150Mb per second. That’s plenty for all devices that can handle this thing, including digital cameras and recording full HD footage. In fact, it comes with a full sized SD card adapter so you can use it in devices that take standard sized SD cards like cameras. Skyheim is a magic mod for Valheim that introduces a bunch of new spells and abilities to spice up combat, all neatly tied into the game’s progression system. Each boss will drop items that can be used to craft rune spells, so you’ll need to repeat boss fights to gather sufficient resources to craft them all. Here’s a video showing off a couple of the spells, and what the crafting process looks like: The style of spells available in the mod reminded me quite a bit of the basic spells in Skyrim, and and I’m assuming the “Sky” in the mod name is probably a nod to the Elder Scrolls game....

Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy bundles all three games of the rebooted series - Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition - and looks set to release on 18th March 2021. Although there’s no mention of a next-gen upgrade, features listed on the store include HDR and 4K, as well as all the DLC and the online multiplayer and co-op modes, too....

As reported last year, a group of Turkish streamers netted $10m through Bit donations from stolen credit cards. Turkish police ran an operation in 11 provinces against a gang accused of running the scam, as a result of a probe by the Chief Prosecutor’s Office in Istanbul. Four further suspects remain at large. The scam first came to light due to a mass leak of Twitch data in October 2021 that revealed the top earning streamers on the platform, including a number of Turkish streamers....

Fractal is Kan’s new venture, essentially a marketplace for selling in-game items and cosmetics as NFTs on the blockchain. A hacker managed to gain access to the Fractal Discord server posing as a bot with a link advertising a drop of NFTs to be sold. The scammers managed to sell 3,294 NFTs before it was shut down, according to reporter Zach Bussey. Of course, no NFTs were being sold. Instead, the NFT-selling platform was scammed for around $150,000....

“We can confirm a breach has taken place,” Twitch said in a message posted to Twitter. “Our teams are working with urgency to understand the extent of this. We will update the community as soon as additional information is available. Thank you for bearing with us.” ORIGINAL STORY 10.45am UK: Twitch source code appears to have been leaked by an anonymous hacker, including streamer payout reports. A 126GB torrent has been uploaded to 4chan, describing the Twitch community as a “disgusting toxic cesspool”....

“Unpacking Master”, as its rip-off was titled, hit the headlines this week after it topped app store download charts - despite it being a microtransaction-fulled asset flip of the original. Now, in a statement to Kotaku, SayGames boss Egor Vaihanski has apologised, and said it had removed the game from Google Play itself. (Apple is believed to have pulled Unpacking Master from its app store after the matter gained widespread press coverage....

In the patch notes shared on Steam, Iron Gate mentions that campfires, bonfires and hearths now take damage when they deal damage, meaning that a farm will no longer be infinite - you’ll have to stand and repair the fires manually. I popped into Valheim to check out the rate of damage, and after standing in my campfire for a few seconds I noticed it had dropped half its health....
