Command & Conquer: Generals Evolution, which released last week in beta form, certainly captures the feel and atmosphere of the original within the better-looking 2008 RTS Red Alert 3. The modders have ported almost every unit from the original game, and added some new units “to spice up gameplay a bit”. You can download Command & Conquer: Generals Evolution now from Moddb. A PC release has already been officially confirmed and was originally due out yesterday, but last month publisher Sega announced the game would be delayed until February 2023. The game’s ratings can be found by using the search term “英雄連隊”, the title’s translation into Chinese. The ratings for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S were all listed today (spotted by Gematsu). Our own Chris Tapsell had a hands-on preview with Company of Heroes 3 in July, where he asked developer Relic Entertainment on the process they’ve used when designing the game’s narrative....

Not content with taking his helmet off and getting his bum out, the Spartan warrior has now gone all the way. Presumably it’s all part of the “mission statement” to show more of the character’s human side. Spoilers follow. The latest episode, Allegiance, has the Chief hook up with Makee - a human kidnapped by the Covenant at a young age and deemed to be their chosen one. Not that it’s shown: the two humans are seen uncovering and touching scars, before waking up together later in bed, their intercourse merely implied....

The game begins at a computer screen (like most of our days) in sunny Chicago, where Milda, while customising her character in a game called Crown Kingdom, receives news that her grandfather in Lithuania has passed away, and she’s been named the inheritor of his property there. After stepping away from the desk, we’re introduced to the game’s mechanics: hold the mouse’s scroll button to highlight points of interest in that particular environment, and left-click to interact with one of them....

Amatangelo joined CD Projekt back in January 2020, and will now take over from former game director Adam Badowski. According to a report by GamesIndustry.biz, Badowski will now focus on other leadership duties within CD Projekt, including the company’s new “strategic development framework” that will see the Cyberpunk and Witcher brands developed in parallel. Before becoming a creative director for Cyberpunk 2077, Amatangelo also worked as a design director on Dragon Age: Inquisition DLC, and lead designer on several expansions for Star Wars: The Old Republic....

Preliminary numbers for 2020 see CD Projekt earn $562m in sales revenue, more than double those of 2015 when The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt debuted (thanks, GamesIndustry.biz). Year-on-year, CD Projekt sales revenues quadrupled from a quiet 2019. Net profit was $303m, triple that of the previous record - again, from The Witcher 3’s launch back in 2015. Much of this confirms what we knew already - that Cyberpunk 2077 was a hugely-anticipated game with years of hype and a mountain of pre-orders built up over time....

The multiplayer title’s developer Behaviour Interactive shared on Twitter that it worked with a company called Boss Protocol “over several months to adapt in-game models for use as NFTs”. The Pinhead NFT, based on the Dead by Daylight character model, is part of the Boss Protocol Masters of Horror NFT collection, as detailed on its website. Select NFTs will grant access to the Hellraiser chapter in Dead by Daylight. The developer also clarifies that the NFTs will not unlock Doug Bradley’s voice in the game, despite him recording lines for the NFTs and not the game....

Sadako Rising is the next chapter to be added to the game, based on the cult Japanese horror Ringu - as previously reported. Sadako is the new killer, known in-game as The Onryō, who horror fans will recognise for crawling out of wells and TVs. She’ll be joined by a new survivor too: Yoichi Asakawa, the only protagonist in the Ringu franchise to have ever survived Sadako’s vengeful ordeal. Fitting....

In an update posted to reddit, developer EA Motive said it’ll show how the game has changed based on feedback next year. “We’re going to be heads down now working on the game, taking some time to review all the thoughts, theories, and suggestions you’ve all shared with us,” Motive said. “We look forward to showing you how you’ve helped shape the game next year when we’re further in development!...

On Steam, its £50 price sits in line with other upcoming AAA launches, such as Gotham Knights, Sonic Frontiers, The Callisto Protocol, Hogwarts Legacy and Marvel’s Midnight Suns. On console, the price point for these games varies a little more. Sonic Frontiers is £50, Callisto Protocol is £55 and Hogwarts Legacy is £60, while Gotham Knights and Marvel’s Midnight Suns are £65. A small saving is available if you already subscribe to EA Play - bringing the game’s £70 price down by seven quid to £63 on consoles, or an even cheaper £45 on Steam....

Though it shares a number of similarities with Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain - Kojima’s last game - the setting and objectives couldn’t be further apart. Yes, you are using gadgets to skulk past enemy camps, but it’s all to deliver cargo and connect isolated bunkers and cities across a vast post-apocalyptic landscape. You’re also carrying a baby in a pod to help detect invisible monsters, while Guillermo del Toro occasionally calls you to discuss your next mission....

The mission is part of The Voice on the Other Side, a quest which culminates in Dead Man’s Tale, a new Exotic Scout Rifle, as the reward. This mission is not unlike Harbinger, Whisper of the Worm and Outbreak Perfected’s Zero Hour, offering a challenging mission with several difficult combat encounters and puzzles. Released on weekly reset on October 29th, 2019 alongside Festival of the Lost, starting this machine gun works a little differently to most quests - so you might need a pointer of where to look. However, like the recent Season of the Undying exclusive Leviathan’s Breath, earning the Xenophage is shorter than most Exotic quests, and the bulk of it can be completed solo before having to delve into the Moon’s Pit of Heresy dungeon....

However, we also spend a fair amount of time talking about the rising cost of gaming - or more specifically, the huge increases in energy costs. In the UK at least, we’re looking at a potentially gigantic and disastrous increase in the cost of electricity in October - and the recent news on next-gen GPUs raising their TDPs has got a lot of people concerned. First of all, I do think that the biggest TDP increases will be found on the more expensive GPUs, but ultimately, perhaps we should be looking at the energy savings brought about by frame-rate limiters....

Though establishing a build is part and parcel of any RPG set up, Diablo expands it further with the ability to create and set runewords, giving you additional effects. While they were introduced in the original Diablo game expansion, Hellfire, runewords didn’t come back until Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction, which re-introduced Runes into the game. The early rollout is reportedly “due to the nature of how mobile games rollout” and will “ensure a smooth launch”. The game is also now available to pre-load on PC via Battle.net. In some Asia Pacific regions, however - including Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macao, Malaysia, The Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand - Diablo Immortal won’t launch on PC and mobile devices until 22nd June. Vietnam gets just an open beta on PC....

As the holiday season approaches, everyone is looking for the perfect party board game to play with their friends and loved ones over the festive period. An ideal party game is one that doesn’t last too long, doesn’t require too much attention and is guaranteed to result in at least some hilarity.
