As revealed by SteamCharts, currently the Norse fantasy game is currently more popular than multiplayer favourites like PUBG, Apex Legends, and even Grant Theft Auto 5, with only Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offense currently sporting more concurrent players. Valheim has sold over 1m copies in just a week. The Viking-themed survival and crafting game launched as an Early Access title on 2nd February, and quickly rose to the upper echelons of Steam and Twitch....

Mythic Quest, if you didn’t catch the first season, is a workplace comedy charting the misadventures of the staff at a fictional game development studio working on the massively popular MMO of the title. McElhenney stars as creative director Ian Grimm, alongside the likes of Ashly Burch, Charlotte Nicdao, Danny Pudi, and David Hornsby (Always Sunny’s Cricket). Season 1 trundled along amusingly enough for its first couple of episodes but really hit its stride with its left field fifth instalment, A Dark Quiet Death, a beautiful mid-season palate cleanser that, to my mind at least, ushered in a much stronger second half with some fantastic character work and a surprisingly big heart - all culminating in a wonderful coronavirus special....

Rockstar was light on detail in its blog post: “In Los Santos, car culture is back on the streets in a big way, with new opportunities for fans of performance and customisation upgrades to get together with like-minded gearheads to test and show off their rides free from interference from authorities and other troublemakers. The renewed interest is bringing a new underground car meet into the area, along with new additions to the local racing scene - and demand for stolen vehicles has never been higher....

Chatting to GamesBeat, Gilbert and Grossman revealed the Monkey Wrench puzzle from LeChuck’s Revenge, which saw Guybrush Threepwood using an actual monkey to activate a seemingly broken pump, was a mistake, calling it “notoriously unsolvable” and “not a good design on several levels”. “Even if you are an English speaker from a location where the tool in question is commonly called a ‘monkey wrench,’ and you realise that that’s what you need, you still have to make an astonishing predictive leap about how your actions will create that tool,” said Grossman....

The critically acclaimed remaster, which arrived on Switch last year, will receive an upgraded resolution and improved performance. In addition to the visual improvements, the PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions of the game include the “Another Episode” DLC at no additional cost. The DLC adds a series of illustrated storybook-style episodes narrated by the game’s 12 marriage candidates, and Selphia’s lovable guardian dragon Ventuswill, fully voiced in English and Japanese....

The highlight of this new investment package is 50bn riyals (£12bn) earmarked for the acquisition of “a leading game publisher to become a strategic development partner,” according to the state’s press agency. Another 70 billion riyals (£16bn) is pegged for minority stakes in other companies, while the rest will be spent targeting industry disruptors and mature industry partners to enhance Savvy’s portfolio. “Savvy Games Group is one part of our ambitious strategy aiming to make Saudi Arabia the ultimate global hub for the games and esports sector by 2030,” Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said, according to the Saudi Press Agency....

But this trailer was not only shared in English (the version you can see below). Universal has also been uploading this trailer to its many YouTube channels, meaning we can hear just how Toad, Kamek and the rest of those in the Mushroom Kingdom (that we have seen so far at least) sound in Spanish, Italian and more. As announced on Xbox Wire, The Riftbreaker will be available on Game Pass from day one. It’s described as a “mix of base-builder, survival, and action-RPG”. Players take on the role of Captain Ashley Nowak, a member of the “elite Riftbreaker formation”. She travels to a distant planet called Galatea 37, where she must prepare the world for human settlement. At least she has a mecha-suit to help with that....

For such a taciturn game - Scorn has no text prompts, no dialogue, and no map; you move through its world by organic exploration, hope, luck, and nothing more - this circle-of-life stuff is surprisingly in your face. Before you’re out of the opening hour, you will have pried a deformed form from a rotting egg and ripped an organic weapon from its umbilical holster moments before you’re soaked in a thick, milky substance so overwhelming, it knocks you out....

So before we talk about the HD 599 - what does open-back actually mean? Sonic Frontiers was first teased at the end of last May (with only the vaguest of CGI trailers and no name), but it wasn’t until December that first proper details emerged, with Sega describing the title as Sonic’s “first ever open zone” game. “Accelerate to new heights and experience the thrill of high velocity open-zone freedom,” the publisher said at the time. “Battle powerful enemies as you speed through the Starfall Islands - landscapes brimming with dense forests, overflowing waterfalls, sizzling deserts and more!...

As the prologue comic and animation suggest, Sonic Frontiers is a more story-driven adventure than you might expect, so this is your notice to watch out for spoilers online. There’s even a Switch ROM of the entire game being discussed over on reddit....

The headset won’t be wireless, but will only have one wire to connect it to your console. Less chance of tripping! It’s also still some way off, Sony has said, and won’t launch in 2021. “We’re taking what we’ve learned since launching PS VR on PS4 to develop a next-gen VR system that enhances everything from resolution and field of view to tracking and input,” Sony’s Hideaki Nishino wrote on the PlayStation blog....

In a document published as part of Sony’s Investor Relations day, Sony mentions Uncharted 4 under “more PC releases planned” (it’s on page 26). Sony is putting more of its PlayStation 4 games on PC. It’s already released Guerrilla’s Horizon: Zero Dawn on PC and, most recently, Sony Bend’s Days Gone. It makes sense that Naughty Dog’s five-year-old adventure game would be part of Sony’s PC push. It’s certainly an odd way for Sony to reveal a PC release of such significance, but we’ll take it!...

With Koei Tecmo on development duties, there’s more than a touch of Nioh to its hard-edged action, while Square Enix keeps the Final Fantasy references coming thick and fast, from the FF5-inspired job system to familiar locations that draw upon the likes of FF13’s Sunleth Waterscape. Stranger of Paradise’s nuttiness is all its own, though, and is pushed to the max in the latest trailer, below, that’s just been put out ahead of the game’s 18th March release date....
