Up first tomorrow, 15th September, is colourful 2D action platformer Flynn: Son of Crimson. Thursday 16th then brings the launches of the physics-based aquatic adventure I Am Fish, plus SkateBird and first-person puzzler Superliminal. This Friday, 17th September sees the launch of Aragami 2 straight into Game Pass. As with all the games mentioned above, you’ll find it on the subscription service for PC, console and cloud....

The Sorcery! games might be getting on a bit now (the first instalment launched on iOS back in 2013), but they’re just as engrossing as ever. Jackson’s source material - a four-part spin-off of the Fighting Fantasy series - is still a delight, and Inkle gives the adaptation’s predominantly text-based choose-your-own-adventure proceedings a real sense of presence, through some satisfyingly chunky map exploration, enhanced combat, and other nifty tricks. Inkle’s adaptation was initially released over the course of four instalments, each chapter corresponding to one of the series’ books - The Shamutanti Hills, Kharé: Cityport of Traps, The Seven Serpents, and The Crown of Kings - all adding up to an epic, wonderfully replayable adventure....

Death’s Door debuted on PC and Xbox earlier this year, immediately garnering acclaim for its richly atmospheric blend of ingenious exploratory puzzling and challenging combat - all wrapped up in a wondrous, melancholy tale of a soul-reaping crow on a quest to fix a devastating mistake in a beautifully bleak world. It’s cracking stuff, as Eurogamer’s Chris Tapsell explained in his effusive Essential review. “What a beautifully concise, measured, exacting, deliberate thing Death’s Door is,” he wrote....

According to Activision Blizzard’s most recent financial report, the developer/publisher generated £535m from its PC and console sales in Q2 2022 - £275m ($332m) on PC and £310m ($376m) consoles - while £688m ($831m) came from its “mobile and ancillary” business, which the company says “primarily include[s] revenues from mobile devices”. That’s more than 50 per cent of its entire net revenue for the period. Part of this, of course, is because Activision acquired mobile developer King in 2016 - and right now, it’s the most successful part of ABK’s business - but it’s likely not coincidental that Diablo Immortal released during this period, too (thanks, PC Gamer)....

Reportedly taken from Xbox’s own backend system, it comes just weeks after Microsoft revealed that it was trialling an Xbox Game Pass tier that would permit players to share their Game Pass subscription with friends and family members. Called Xbox Game Pass Insider Preview, the service allows users - currently restricted to Ireland and Colombia - to “add up to four people to [their] subscription, all with their own unique access to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate games, content, and benefits” (thanks, VGC)....

I say first properly open world, but there will be some caveats here. Pokémon Legends: Arceus (that was this year!) was sort of open, more of a Monster Hunter-like game of distinct open areas separated off from one another. Scarlet and Violet are open, it seems, like an Elder Scrolls game is open, with the whole main world seemingly accessible to you more or less from the off, but some loading screens separating you from major cities like Mesagoza, which act as their own discrete areas....

The unexpected news of a new DLC character was revealed during this weekend’s Jump Festa 2022. You can see her in action in the new, and exceedingly brief, teaser below: Android 21’s “Majin” version - created in partnership between Arc System Works and Dragon Ball’s creator Akira Toriyama - is already a playable fighter, of course, but the “Lab Coat” iteration is all new (thanks, NintendoLife). A release date was not announced....

A video advert was spotted by fans playing on YouTube, and although Ubisoft has issued copyright claims in a bid to scrub the leak from the internet, it’s readily available....

The talking points last week were the PlayStation Plus relaunch, which we don’t dwell on because the Newscast tackles it in much more detail. But we do dwell on the new Evil Dead game, which we’ve been playing, and Warner Bros.’ new Smash Bros.’ (how many brothers can there be?) game Multiversus, which we’ve also been playing. Happ had initially planned to launch Axiom Verge 2 on PC and Switch at some point in 2020, but ultimately opted to postpone release into the first half of this year for a variety of reasons. That window was later narrowed to “spring”, but the developer has now announced an additional delay, pushing the game’s release back to “Q3” 2021 - indicating it’ll likely arrive between the start of July and the end of September....

Grymforge is a sprawling city in the Underdark, beyond where the current Early Access build ends, and is home to the really rather unpleasant Duergar dwarves. Repeat: they are not friendly, and will fight you without a moment’s hesitation....

That’s according to a new dev blog on Baldur’s Gate 3’s Steam page, which also promises we’ll get a peek at new features “before the year is out” courtesy of Patch 9. “The good news is that we’re on track for release in 2023 – and we’ll have more on that in December,” the blog confirms. “Acts 2 and 3 of the story are being actively playtested to ensure they’re up to the same level of polish and you’ll soon discover that there’s much more in the works (or already complete) than what you’ll encounter in an Early Access playthrough....

The upcoming prequel comic, titled as Gotham Knights - Gilded City, focuses on Batman as he attempts to quell the spread of a rage-inducing virus infecting Gotham City (thanks, PopVerse). This case is being billed as Batman’s final mission before his apparently very much permanent demise, so there’s likely some interesting backstory here relevant to the game. There’s also a storyline which connects events to Gotham in the 1880s, and an early masked vigilante named Runaway....

Described as an “all-digital community celebration and exhibition of Blizzard games and universes”, BlizzConline starts next Friday, 19th February and will run until Saturday, 20th February. It’s a free event, available to watch via Twitch and YouTube, and will feature a range of events streamed across six differently themed channels - a general Blizzard channel, and ones focussing on World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, Diablo, Overwatch, and “strategy”. Probably the most essential watch of the weekend will be the Opening Ceremony, which kicks off the entire event at 10pm GMT/2pm PST next Friday....

The Silk Sonic couple will arrive in Fortnite as player skins, while you’ll also be able to tune into a new in-vehicle radio station featuring the pair. Icon Radio, as the new station is named, refers to the branding Fortnite gives to real-world figures it adds into the game (Ariana Grande, Neymar Jr., Ninja.) Funk star Bootsy Collins will voice its DJ. If you want to try your hand at earning Bruno Mars and Anderson ....

Channels impacted by the claims include those which host music tracks from the series, as well as popular story explanation videos from Destiny loremaster Byf, who uses Destiny soundtracks as background music. In a statement posted to Twitter last night, Bungie said it was aware of the takedowns - and that some of its own videos had also been impacted. “We’re aware of a series of copyright takedowns on YouTube and we’re actively investigating....
