In an update pushed live this afternoon, the developer nerfed the super popular AUG and FFAR 1. First up, the AUG - or as it’s known in the patch notes, Cold War Tactical Rifle Charlie (quite why Call of Duty insists on using this nomenclature for its guns is beyond me). Recoil strength has been increased on the AUG, which will hopefully calm it down a bit. “Burst weapons ride a fine line between inefficient and oppressive,” Raven said....

Following a playable demo at Tokyo Game Show in September, a release date was left in speculation until earlier today. Village will be available to play from day one on PSVR2 (22nd February), and will be a free DLC for all editions of the game. On the official PlayStation blog, game director Kanda Tsuyoshi shared more details about the VR mode. The game will make good use of the headset’s 4K HDR display, and you’ll be able to dual-wield weapons (when Ethan has both his hands attached, that is)....

Trufflepigs is the work of Crawshaw’s Leeds-based studio Thunkd (which says it wants to become synonymous with “high-quality, short-form, ’evening-sized’ games”), and tells the story of Adam - voiced by Doctor Who and Legends of Tomorrow’s Arthur Darvill - as he returns to his childhood home in the heart of the English countryside. What follows is a game of laid-back metal detecting and exploration, with a “strong interpersonal narrative” as Adam reunites with old friend Beth (played by Safe House and Another Eden’s Luci Fish) and joins her on a quest to find a local treasure connected to her past....

The news comes alongside a new trailer that gives a fresh look at the game’s combat system. The retro-inspired RPG is heavily influenced by Chrono Trigger and includes similarly turn-based combat within its world without random encounters. It also takes a leaf out of Super Mario RPG’s book with timed hits in sync with animations for extra damage and defence. Enemies will have elemental locks on their health bars which will need to be broken by using damage of a certain type....

Sloclap’s game has been criticised by some for its high difficulty, though it appears many players have stepped up to the challenge. As previously reported, only 34 percent of players had completed the tricky second level judging by trophy stats a week after launch. Sloclap has revealed now that over 45 percent of players have now finished the level. What’s more, it stated that over 150,000 players have beaten the game’s main antagonist....

According to the new video, the majority of Skyblivion’s map is now in the final stages of development, and the work shown so far is seriously impressive. The video discusses how areas such as the forest surrounding the Orange Road have been adapted and improved for the remake. The team decided to make the forest “more lush and detailed than its original counterpart” and make it larger to give it a more prominent role in the game, citing the area’s ambience and popularity with players as the reason for giving it more attention....

Solar Ash is a game about movement, a game about speeding around bizarre fantasy landscapes and confronting enormous bosses who live there. You skate on multicoloured clouds which bobble up behind you, and then you grind along glowing rails sprouting from alien pods. You fling grappling hooks to bridge chasms and you swing to new areas, and you scramble up sticky, sludgy growths to reach others. When you’re doing Solar Ash properly, you’re moving at speed....

All-round it’s an excellent set of Nintendo Switch deals with some of the lowest prices I’ve seen on many of the console’s biggest releases. The code you’ll need to use at the end of the checkout is ‘FNDDGAME’. It’s intended use is to give you free next day delivery, but if you use it alongside the standard delivery option it’ll just take £5 off the price of each game. The highlight is probably Animal Crossing: New Horizons for £30....

YouTuber Jairus of All is the person behind this engineering marvel, who in a nine-minute video explains how he got this thing to work (thanks, PC Gamer). To add a cherry on top, Jairus handed over the launcher to “Master Chief” who fired it at a lake on the back of a Mongoose. In the video, Jairus explains that he’s been wanting to build it for over 15 years, with the current launcher based on Halo Infinite’s design....

If you don’t recognise the name, you might know him as the doctor from the movie Awakenings, as played by Robin Williams. Based on Sacks’ book of the same name, the story that the film tells is incredible but true. A small number of patients with ‘sleeping sickness’ saw, through the actions of Dr Sacks, a dramatic reversal of their catatonic states. This recovery was sadly short-lived, and in some cases came with very unpleasant side effects, but it was nonetheless a stupendous achievement, and completely unprecedented....

There’s no estimated time of arrival for any of Sonic Frontier’s newly announced updates, but the first will introduce a juke box, photo mode, and a selection of new challenge modes. That’ll be followed by a second update celebrating Sonic’s birthday - and adding new Koco and a new open zone challenge - suggesting Sega’s aiming for a June-ish launch for this one. Finally, there’s the biggie, with Sonic Frontiers’ third free update of 2023 teasing new story content and playable characters....

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Nicolas Doucet, studio director and creative director at the Tokyo-based studio, said Team Asobi “is now spreading its wings and growing bigger!” “This is a very exciting time for the team, and we are very much looking forward to this next chapter,” Doucet continued. Sony’s support of Team Asobi comes following a restructure of Sony’s Japan Studio, and after a staff exodus that has seen Gravity Rush and Silent Hill creator Keiichiro Toyama leave to form new studio Bokeh....

This week, Sony published a new PS5 trailer broadcast during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to its YouTube channel, and with it some changes to the release dates of various upcoming PS5 games. Hidden in the trailer’s small print came word that Capcom’s odd-looking astronaut and small girl-starring Pragmata will now arrive in 2023. It was previously slated for launch in 2022. There was also a slightly more definitive March 2021 launch window for the intriguing Kena: Bridge of Spirits, instead of simply “spring”....

It took me a while to get into Dark Souls. That seems like a weird thing to be writing now, akin to, “I wasn’t sure about ice cream at first” or, “I didn’t like the look of puppies.” But I bounced off it a couple of times before being properly ensnared. As a result, by the time I was looking for more Soulsian adventures, Dark Souls 2 Original had been and gone and Scholar of the First Sin was on shelves....

Super Bomberman R Online is, as its name somewhat implies, a pared back version of Konami’s 2017 effort Super Bomberman R. This updated version, which initially launched as a timed Stadia exclusive last August, jettisons the original’s story campaign and various multiplayer bits in favour of a single, online-only 64-player battle mode, imaginatively titled Battle 64. Each Battle 64 match begins by dropping participants (who can select from various characters and customisation options beforehand) into one of 16 battle arenas....

Developer Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) said it is doing this because many of Star Citizen’s “most passionate players” were taking features added to the roadmap as “promises”, and getting upset when they were delayed. CIG said it would no longer show any upcoming features for “any patches beyond the immediate one in the next quarter… rather than continuing to display release projections that carry a high percentage chance of moving (those multiple quarters out)”....

That’s according to VentureBeat reporter Jeff Grubb in his latest Grubbsnax episode (as transcribed by VGC), who claims publisher EA and Respawn had initially been aiming to launch the Fallen Order sequel later this year, but that those plans have since changed and the game “is for sure now not coming out until 2023”. This later-than-planned release date combined with the decision to drop support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in favour of the newer consoles and PC means, according to Grubb, the development team won’t “have to worry about trying to straddle these generation lines”....
