Jumpship is an independent studio founded by film animator Chris Olsen in collaboration with Dino Patti, co-founder and former CEO of Limbo studio Playdead. Playground has maintained the games’ quality and iterated so carefully that it’s hard to pick a favourite or a standout. It’s the first time the British-based Frontier has acquired a development studio, albeit one which the company has worked with in the past. The well-received Daemonhunters arrived in May this year as part of Frontier’s own third-party games label. Frontier has paid £8.3m upfront, with a further £3.3m due over the next year if milestones are met. The 20-person strong Complex Games, based in Winnipeg, Canada, will now continue to work on Daemonhunters while next looking to build “even more ambitious future titles”, a press release on the acquisition stated today....

While 11 Bit is publishing and assisting with Project Vitriol, the game is actually the work of Polish developer Fool’s Theory - a “collective of AAA veterans” with previous credits on The Witcher 2 and 3. Its previous title, open-world RPG Seven: The Days Long Gone, released in 2017, and the studio has also lent support to the likes of Outriders and Divinity Original Sin 2. As for Project Vitriol, 11 Bit Studios says the “deep, morally ambiguous narrative-driven RPG” is “of a scale and scope not previously undertaken by the publisher”, and Fool’s Theory CEO and project lead Jakub Rokosz had a little more to say as part of its announcement....

The post, tagged “#ValentinesDay”, was apparently designed to highlight GAME’s range of mobile phones. Following numerous complaints, it has now been pulled from the official @GAMEdigital Twitter feed. Eurogamer has contacted GAME for comment. “Love your phone as much as you love your console? Show it you care and upgrade here. #ValentinesDay,” the post read. The image which accompanied this text showed several older phones with their screens smashed, next to a newer model....

In fairness, it’s a compelling notion; as a cursory glance at Elden Ring’s character list will quickly reveal, four of the most significant players in the game’s lore all have names beginning with either the letters G, R, or M - there’s Godfrey, for instance, Rennala, Radagon, and Marika. And if you want to go further down their respective family trees, there are plenty more Gs, Rs, and Ms to be found: Godwyn, Radahn, Ranni, Rykard, Renna, Mogh, Miquella, and so on....

PlayStation Studios head Herman Hulst shared the news on Twitter, thanking fans and congratulating God of War Ragnarök developer Sony Santa Monica for its “amazing achievement”. We already knew God of War Ragnarök was doing the numbers, of course - it set the day-one sales record for the franchise here in the UK - but Hulst’s announcement confirmed it had also set a first-week sales record for the series around the world....

Steam users have review-bombed the game and complained it should not have released with the same £49.99 price tag it launched with on the Epic Games Store back in January 2021. Other criticism centred on the game’s various editions and additions (Standard, Deluxe, Seven Deadly Sins Collection, Trilogy, Trilogy + Premium Add-Ons, Hitman 3 Access Pass: Hitman 2 Gold), which users said were just plain confusing. “Our Hitman 3 launch on Steam didn’t go as planned,” IO responded in a blog posted this afternoon....
