In a post on the PlayStation Blog, the developer said Season One: Hotshots includes the “first steps” towards a ranked mode. It’s called Blitz and features 3v3v3v3 action. Meanwhile, a battle pass is on its way with Season One. It sounds like this works as you’d expect, with exclusive cosmetic content only available in the current season up for grabs. There’s a free tier and a premium tier. Elsewhere, there’s a new photo mode in the works....

Ghost Town Games, developer of Overcooked, one of Team17’s most popular titles, released a statement via Twitter this afternoon saying it did not support NFTs due to their “environmental and social cost”. Aggro Crab, developer of Team17-published roguelike Going Under, went further. “We believe NFTs cannot be environmentally friendly, or useful, and really are just an overall fucking grift,” it wrote, adding that it would never work with Team17 again....

It’s the PS Plus relaunched games lineup that’s the first port of call, as the team mulls the curious selection of titles from the newly expanded service’s higher tiers - and the pleasant surprise that a selection of previously purchased digital PS1 and PSP games will be playable on PS4 and PS5 without a PS Plus subscription. The team passes comment on what was revealed last week, but maybe we’ve not seen the full picture quite yet as it appears that at least one Ridge Racer game will be added to the classics line-up....

It’s not entirely clear based on existing precedents - because we have two of them. Minecraft continues to be supported on all platforms, however, Bethesda’s multi-platform run looks to be coming to and end, meaning that hit franchises such as Doom, The Elder Scrolls and the eagerly anticipated Starfield will not appear on PlayStation. COD support for PlayStation could go either way then, but for me, the real question is this: can Call of Duty titles appear day one on Xbox Game Pass even with the current Sony content deals in place?...

That kicks off, of course, with Elden Ring. Our coverage has been somewhat piecemeal to date as code arrived late, plus both Namco and ourselves wanted to put out performance data related to the day one patch - though it appears that not much changed from prior versions: there have been some tweaks from the network test code we looked at last year, but ultimately, there is the sense that both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions should be smoother than they actually are in their respective performance modes, while it’s difficult to fathom how the PC version released in the state it did....

Beyond that, discussion moves on to last week’s announcement of God of War for PC, complete with select new graphical features, unlocked frame-rates, ultrawide support and the pleasantly surprising inclusion of Nvidia DLSS. It’s not clear just how much of an improvement the new features add, but it’ll be interesting to see if DLSS and other upscaling features are added to other Sony titles, such as the forthcoming Uncharted collection....

Diablo 4, the game that’s not Diablo Immortal, will launch for PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S in 2023, Blizzard confirmed today. As with Overwatch 2, which Blizzard detailed earlier, Diablo 4 will have cross-play and cross-progression across all platforms. Joining the Barbarian, Sorceress, Rogue and Druid classes will be the Necromancer, which has all-new undead mechanics utilising the Necromancer’s Book of the Dead. This lets you play with “skeleton Warriors, fast-attacking Skirmishers, sword and board Defenders, or scythe-wielding Reapers” plus spell-wielding Skeleton Mages, Bone Golems tanks, health-stealing Blood Golems or charging Iron Golems....

Dreamlight Valley players first got a look at the life-sim adventure’s new Toy Story realm - a recreation of Andy’s childhood bedroom, as seen in the movies - back in September, during the Disney & Marvel Games Showcase. At the time, it was revealed players would be teaming up with Woody and Buzz for a “brand-new Toy Story adventure” when the realm released. A selection of Buzz and Woody inspired cosmetics were also teased, but full details of the update are still to be shared....

An update on 15th December will see plenty of new content added to the MOBA game, including the big orange dragon as a playable character from 20th December. A new trailer for the game shows the Pokémon in action, as well as the new Christmas-themed content. Plenty of outfits are included, whether you want to turn Crustle into a jingle bell rock, want a Snorlax dressed as a holiday chef, or simply want to put a little Santa hat on a Blastoise....

Though the tools were visible, players couldn’t use them to add content or make permanent changes to their own or anyone else’s accounts, EA has insisted. However, at least one player was able to disable their own FUT transfer market access using these debug tools. The video below, uploaded to reddit by user Lqurens, clearly shows how they were able to access the debug menu within the web app and block their own access to the transfer market....

Knockout City - which launched on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC last May - has just embarked on its fifth season of content, a celebration of its first year of release that developer Velan is calling Greatest Hits. Season 5, which will run for around 12 weeks in total, will bring Knockout City’s “Year One” to a close, at which point it’s all change for the game. As Year Two gets underway with Season 6 this “spring”, Knockout City will switch to a free-to-play model (it currently costs £17....

Announced last July, the Dead Space remake is a ground-up reworking of the 2008 original, promising to raise “the level of horror and immersion to unprecedented heights”. Of course, players still step into the shoes of engineer Isaac Clarke as they take their terrifying journey through the shadowy interior of the mining ship USG Ishimura - battling the nightmarish necromorphs along the way - but EA Motive’s version promises to bring enhanced audio and visuals, alongside other tweaks include improved story, characters, and game mechanics....

Enter your character stats, choose a spell school, and the tool will spit out the best weapon for the job....

The files in questions were found by Twitter user JesterPatches, who wrote: “Looking through [Elden Ring’s] files I came across a few icons making me believe that a bestiary was planned at some point.” The user continues: “There are 128 icons showing different NPCs. Each NPC shown has two icons, one greyed out and another one filled in, so it could be not found and found.” To accompany their find, JesterPatches included several snapshots of what these icons depict, citing Caelid Dog, Caelid Crow and the Pigeon as their favourites....

The move will see Meta’s overall workforce shrink by 13 percent, with some areas of the business impacted more than others. Oculus games and apps were left unavailable to access, while games which use Facebook as a login method (such as Pokémon Go) were also hit. “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products,” Oculus wrote on Twitter last night - a canned message shared by many Facebook services. “We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience....
