Housemarque’s PlayStation 5-exclusive was due out 19th March. In a tweet, Sony said the delay will give the developers more time to polish the game. “SIE and Housemarque have made the decision to move the release date in order to give the team extra time to continue to polish the game to the level of quality players expect from Housemarque,” Sony said. Housemarque is trying something a bit different with Returnal....
The long-lived battle royale originally launched in 2017 and is still popular - but it’ll be interesting to see how much of a further boost this gives the game. Free players will gain a slightly different offering, however. You’ll need a $12.99 “account upgrade” to “Battlegrounds Plus” to unlock ranked and custom match modes, plus some extra currency and other bits. This will also get you some in-game items. As reported by the Washington Post, over 60 workers walked out - virtually or otherwise - on Monday. The protest continues today with no set end date. Workers are using the hashtag #WeAreRaven as part of the protest. “We support their right to express their opinions and concerns in a safe and respectful manner, without fear of retaliation,” read a statement from Activision Blizzard to the Washington Post. Brian Raffel, head of Raven Software, held a studio-wide meeting on Monday explaining the terminations weren’t layoffs but temporary employment agreements that weren’t renewed....
In fact, the situation with these PC upgrades proved such a problem for so many users that Capcom quickly restored the older versions, available for download via a Steam beta branch. On the one hand, it is a positive move for Capcom to respond so quickly to the outcry from the community - but tellingly, it also demonstrates that the update is so flawed that even Capcom agrees that the existing versions had to be restored....
Resident Evil Village seems like a pretty unassuming Mac port at first glance. It looks like a feature-complete port of the existing game with little to distinguish it from the existing console and PC versions, but there is something curious nestled away in the settings menu: an option for MetalFX Upscaling with selections for quality and performance. Apple’s initial MetalFX demo videos from June didn’t exactly impress, showing remarkably simple content that lacks much in the way of perceptible detail increases in its scaling....
Chatting to Ars Technica, the creator revealed a hint system will be included in the upcoming release. “[One thing] that people really want in games today are built-in hint systems,” Gilbert explained, retconning his previous desires to shun any such mechanic. “If [players] don’t have a built-in hint system, they’re just going to jump over to the web and… read a walkthrough” Gilbert continued, “[There was] a lot of stuff that we did [during the production of The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island: LeChuck’s Revenge] and didn’t think much about—a lot of very obscure puzzles....
