The slow push of the bullet towards your target (a Nazi’s testicles, typically), followed by that sickening but strangely satisfying crunchy splash as the projectile bursts through the intended body part (his testes) is like the video game equivalent of the approach to a big drop on a rollercoaster. It’s all quiet apprehension at first but the moment you reach the peak and things fall into place (aka when the bullet pops the testicles), the air explodes into screams of shocked delight and whoops of laughter....

The game was recently added to Sony’s subscription service having previously been available to purchase on the store. Final Fantasy 7 Remake was first released on PS4 in 2020, followed by a PS5 release the next year. PS5 owners could also download the Intermission DLC that focused on side character Yuffie Kisaragi....

The iconic blue mascot will be added to the game today via a new update. Three other characters, a boss rush mode, new item cards and more background music are also included. There’s a new music track just for Sonic, too: Tropical Resort - Act 1. Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 launched just before Christmas for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X. A follow-up to the original Puyo Puyo Tetris, it includes a full new story campaign and four-player online multiplayer, plus all offline modes from the original game and a skill battle mode with gameplay-changing effects....

That’s according to the ever leaky Tom Henderson who, writing for Try Hard Guides (thanks VGC), claims to have seen images of a prototype from a source wishing to remain anonymous. Henderson says the new controller retains the same basic style of the existing PlayStation 5 controller but features a number of key differences. These include “removable stick units” - which can be switched in and out using buttons below the analog sticks - plus trigger stops, a seemingly removal grip, and rear buttons that Henderson describes as “flappy paddles”, presumably similar to those seen on the likes of Microsoft’s Xbox Elite Wireless Controller....

Troy Baker (The Last of Us) and Roger Clark (Red Dead Redemption 2) will star in leading roles, with development by European studio Fallen Leaf. The aim is a mood that’s Dead Space meets Duncan Jones’ Moon film - a fast-paced, third-person thriller. It’s being developed in Unreal Engine 5 and is available to wishlist on Steam now. There’s no firm release date yet. The game was one of a number of space horror titles announced at the event, including The Callisto Protocol and Aliens: Dark Descent....

“Yes, you can still suplex the train in Final Fantasy 6 pixel remaster,” read a tweet on 13th February promoting the forthcoming release. Except the suplex wasn’t quite right. Fans of the game - originally released on the SNES in 1994 - will know there’s a boss fight against a Phantom Train, and martial arts character Sabin is able to suplex the train. In the video, though, the train didn’t flip upside down during the animation as it should, meaning it technically wasn’t a suplex....

Square Enix released a full statement yesterday, noting “the use of third-party tools is strictly prohibited”. However, the team intends to “review the most prominent tools, and in order to discourage their use, endeavour to enhance the functionality of the HUD”. The news follows the completion of the notoriously difficult Dragonsong’s Reprise raid added in the latest patch. Team Neverland was the first to complete the raid and Square Enix shared a video of the win, before swiftly taking it down due to a copyright request....

A digital collection of cards celebrating the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy 7 will be released on the cross-chain network Efinity and available to those who purchase items from the physical collection, expected to launch in 2023. An action figure is available to pre-order now; the deluxe version of which will include a code to redeem an NFT version of the figurine. Pre-orders for the physical trading cards will go live later this year....

Stadia, of course, requires you to purchase games individually or play the selection of titles included in its Stadia Pro subscription. This has, until now, meant Stadia hasn’t offered one of the key benefits of being a streaming service - the ability to hop in and quickly try snippets of any game in the catalogue to get a feel for what you may like. That all changes today, with the addition of a new Free Trials section and a 30-minute access window for Hello Engineer, a multiplayer construction game....

As part of the in-game annual Intergalactic Aerospace Expo (IAE), players are welcome to “freely test-fly” 120+ ships, including the Drake Corsair which supports a crew of up to four players and boasts living quarters and “strong armaments”. Players will be able to “explore the digital event as they would any convention, from strolling through fully interactive expo halls and seeing the latest ships on display each day in incredible detail, to meeting up with friends to explore and partake in exciting activities, or chance encounters with strangers that launch new friendships”....

It’s available across PlayStation and Xbox consoles, ahead of the game’s release on 27th October. The demo takes place at the start of the game, but has been specially designed with restrictions on certain features. Progress will not carry over into the main game. Its debut trailer, below, was shown during tonight’s Sony State of Play broadcast. It features active battles, cutscenes and exploration fuelled by a jetpack of some sort. Star Ocean The Divine Force is the work of series developer Tri-Ace and is published by Square Enix. Expect the role-playing game to come out at some point in 2022 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Here’s the official blurb: “Featuring a story that blends fantasy and a sci-fi settings, a plethora of different playable characters and side stories, and a unique battle system that allows for thrilling fights using simple and instinctive controls....

Gone are the days of hearing people refer to this game by its dismissive nickname Breath of the Waifu. Now, people are searching for Genshin-likes instead (and Diluc and Zhongli mains can attest the game has its share of husbandos too). But with an estimated 500+ hours already invested, almost a dozen maxed characters and still so much more to do, it’s hard for me to want to play anything else....

The news was revealed in an interview with Video Games FanNation, which Harbour ostensibly took part in to promote World of Warcraft’s Dragonflight expansion. Harbour is currently working on a movie adaptation of Gran Turismo and was asked on whether he would consider starring in a video game. “I actually have one coming out,” he said. “Me and Jodie Comer did a video game. That’ll be coming out… I think it’s next year....

And that’s not all. The developer has also revealed that those who purchase the Taiko Drum Set edition will not only get the base game but the playable drums as well (ok, the clue was in the title with that one). As the developer is known for, it’s another action RPG, this time set in 1863 Japan as civil war rages and a western influence permeates. It’s set for release in 2024 as a PS5 console exclusive, check out a first look at gameplay in the trailer below. As Team Ninja director and president Fumihiko Yasuda writes on the PlayStation Blog, the game has been in development for seven years. “Rise of the Ronin is a new Team Ninja experience that will immerse you in an historically inspired world while bringing together its renowned combat action with Katanas and the likes, with new firearm weaponry that depicts the unique personality of its time period,” said Yasuda....

If you haven’t already, you might want to consider a charging station for your DualSense controllers given the rather paltry size of the charging cable that comes included with the console, which presumably doesn’t stretch from your console to the sofa. Or, if you’re getting bombarded with requests to take your PS5 over to your mate’s house because you’re the only one in your friendship circle that has one, you might want to consider protecting your £450 investment with an official carry case....
