First off, let’s state the obvious: it’s a QHD 1440p IPS screen. That means you’re getting the sweet-spot between standard full HD and 4K resolutions, with excellent viewing angles and clarity. Many mid-range and high-powered GPUs can take advantage of this resolution when it comes to gaming, as well as consoles, with many games optimised for QHD. Next up: it has a 165Hz refresh rate. This means the screen can keep up with games that are optimised for fast gameplay, such as online shooters and e-sports games....
Following a closed beta, the upcoming strategy game goes live for all this Friday, 17th September at 6pm UK time until Monday, 20th September at 6pm. The idea is to scale test the game’s servers and systems with as many players as possible ahead of the 28th October release date. You do not need an invitation. The build is available in the Xbox Insider Hub app (from the Microsoft Store) or Steam, but you can get either whether you’re an Age of Empires Insider or not....

Once again you play as an agent allied to the Strategic Homeland Division in a post-crisis America, following a deadly virus outbreak and the collapse of the government. Topical! The publisher revealed Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint was to be the first game to offer NFTs in a beta trial in select countries not including the UK. With just under a month since its announcement then, just how successful has Ubisoft’s foray into the blockchain been? First spotted by Apex Legends senior character artist Liz Edwards, Ubisoft appears to have sold a grand total of 15 NFTs between the two marketplaces it’s using: Objikt and Rarible....
Manceau, formerly creative director of Steep and Riders Republic at Ubisoft Annecy, will take on this new role which sees him “defining and nurturing Ubisoft’s overall creative vision and guiding the creative direction of its games so that they are accessible, irresistible, and enriching for all players”, the company said in a statement last night. The key post had been left vacant for more than a year, since the July 2020 departure of Serge Hascoët, who was named in various reports of misconduct and inappropriate behaviour during last summer’s firestorm of allegations....
Although Rocksmith+ has been given an exact release date, Ubisoft initially announced it would launch on PC this “summer”, with an Xbox and PlayStation version due this autumn. However, following Rocksmith+’s closed beta back in July, Ubisoft has now made the decision to delay the game’s arrival into next year, in order to incorporate user feedback from the beta and to “ensure we provide the best guitar learning experience”. “We are convinced that this new release plan will give us time to deliver a smoother experience for all guitar and bass lovers,” the company wrote in a statement posted to Twitter....
Ubisoft first revealed it would be revisiting the Settlers’ much-loved city-building and real-time strategy formula in a new series instalment back in 2018. At the time, it told fans to expect the title in autumn the following year but, as that window grew near, the publisher announced a delay, pushing the game’s release into 2020. 2020, however, proved to be another letdown for Settlers fans, with Ubisoft announcing a second delay as the summer arrived....
This latest release date marks Ubisoft’s fourth attempt at getting its Settlers reboot out the door; when the publisher first revealed it was revisiting the series’ much-loved city-building and real-time strategy formula back in 2018, the reboot was expected to arrive in autumn the following year. That wasn’t to be, though, and the game was first pushed into 2020 before being postponed indefinitely as summer 2020 rolled around. It seemed like the end was finally in sight for patient The Settlers fans at the start of this year, however, when Ubisoft announced a new 17th March release date for its reboot - but, following less-than-stellar closed beta feedback, the publisher slammed on the breaks once more, only saying the game would instead launch at “a later date”....
As noted by our colleagues at our sister site GamesIndustry.biz, the government today told game publishers that the luxury of regulating itself will cease if it does not take control of the sale of loot boxes to children and young people as those that use loot boxes are “more likely to experience gambling, mental health, financial, and problem gaming-related harms”. Back in June 2020, the UK Government announced it would launch a call for evidence on loot boxes in response to the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) inquiry into immersive and addictive technologies, and began inviting responses from the public in September....
Vagante’s Steam feature sheet certainly didn’t set my world on fire: procedural generation, “choose how you play”, “tough but fair”, some unabashed debts to Spelunky plus a dollop of RPG-style levelling. I probably don’t need to tell you that it’s a pixelart affair. But then I played for 15 minutes, got sat on by a Baby Dragon and realised that Vagante is a game of quiet originality and verve. With apologies to developer Nuke Nine for being a cocky arsehole, here are a few bulletpoints of my own creation....
Valheim, if you’re unfamiliar, launched into Steam early access last February, and its refined viking survival action - which sees players exploring a gorgeous open-world, slowly preparing themselves to battle powerful creatures and prove themselves worthy of entering Valhalla - immediately drew critical acclaim. It was also a massive sales hit too, managing to sell a staggering 4m copies in only three weeks. One year on, it’s shifted over 10 million copies on PC, and development continues apace, with work on its highly anticipated Mistlands update said to be “well underway”....
There’s no suggestion we are close to that yet, but Iron Gate said it wanted to eventually polish off the project and move on - rather than keep it continually updated as a live service game or an MMO. “Spoiler alert: this game will eventually have an ending. There will be a definitive ending where you beat the game, just so people understand,” artist Robin Eyre explained in a 30 minute fireside chat developer video....
The revelation came in the latest video by the superb YouTube series Game Maker’s Toolkit, which analyses how the Nemesis system works. Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor’s Nemesis system, developed by a number of staff at Kirkland, Washington-based studio Monolith Productions, tracks the player’s in-game actions to create enemies who are seemingly capable of remembering your encounters, rising through the ranks and enacting revenge. In a tweet the developer said it had identified an issue in the PC version that can cause the game to crash for players with certain GPUs, and had taken the decision to delay online indefinitely. “The team is working on fixing the issue as quickly as possible,” Ubisoft said. This is the second delay for Watch Dogs: Legion’s online portion after an initial delay to early 2021 for various technical issues....
