In a series of tweets last night, WarnerMedia boss Jason Kilar reiterated that both Hogwarts Legacy and Gotham Knights would release this calendar year, despite both currently holding vague “2022” launch windows. “This mission, this strategy continues in ‘22 with a sense of urgency,” Kilar wrote of Warner’s world-conquering media plans, “launching HBO Max in many more countries this quarter and the balance of the year, launching CNN+, delivering of a full slate of highly anticipated games....

That’s according to The Happy Warrior, which says sources at Warner Bros. Montreal have confirmed the publisher has cancelled the Russian version “due to the political fallout from the Russian invasion of Ukraine”. The rumour is further compounded by confirmation that Gotham Knight’s Russian sub-site has been taken offline; the URL now results in a 404 error (it was still live as at 12th May, according to archive.org). Similarly, the Steam page makes no mention of Russian-language support, hinting that both Russian voicework and subtitles have been removed (thanks, VGC)....

Mass Effect director Michael Gamble confirmed the news via Twitter last night, shortly after it emerged DeMarle was joining BioWare. DeMarle most recently worked on Eidos Montreal’s Guardians of the Galaxy. At BioWare, she will serve as the Mass Effect project’s senior narrative director. “Oh, hey!” Gamble wrote. “I’m really excited to let you know that Mary DeMarle will be joining the Mass Effect team as Senior Narrative Director. Confirmation came via a customer support representative who responded to a player’s queries about lost XP, the response for which was then shared on the game’s subreddit community. The issue is particularly contentious because rather than count time spent in-game - which would allow for players to experience server downtime without penalty - XP boosts take place in real-time, regardless of whether or not the player is actively online and playing....

Apex Legends was originally expected to launch on the platform last autumn, but complications caused by the coronavirus pandemic saw its release pushed into this year. The port is finally poised for its public debut, however, and Switch owners will be able to enjoy cross-platform play, all seasonal content, and full feature parity with other versions when it launches next week. And if you’re wondering how the Switch edition is shaping up, the answer appears to be (and, granted, I’m no Douglas Foundry) ‘very nicely indeed’, with the port - developed in conjunction with Panic Button, which also brought the likes of Doom Eternal, Warframe, and Wolfenstein: The New Colossus to Nintendo’s console - getting a fresh airing in the trailer below....

I will cut to the chase, however. Yes, we do have some new footage of the spiked blue one roaring onto the screen as he collects up his golden rings, quipping, “I know what you’re thinking - I’m goooood. And powerful, apparently. Jealous?!”, but… well that is really all we get to see. On the other hand, it is nice to know that Sonic hasn’t been given the boot following Netflix’s recent animation purge, so every cloud....

Yesterday’s footage was perhaps most notable for the rather muted art style Sega has opted for this time around, with the game - at least from what we’ve seen so far - placing Sonic in a realistically hewn world that almost feels closer to the sodden, boulder-pocked hillsides of Death Stranding than it does the colour-blasted Sonic backdrops of old. We get to see a lot more of that expansive landscape in Sega’s newly shared seven minutes of Sonic Frontiers gameplay (thanks IGN), with the bulk of the footage focused on leisurely exploration as Sonic roams around, solving puzzles to unlock new elements in the world....

Set in the drained carcass of the Panama Canal, fitting the broader climate-apocalypse theme of the game, Stranded is a small-sized map with a focus on infantry combat. You insist on specifics - fine. This is a first-person platformer-shooter in which you play a burbanite kid turned bounty hunter, chasing down alien gangsters who have discovered that they can smoke human beings like pot. There’s a hub city with dimensional gateways to a handful of jungle or desert worlds, built around looping main paths with pop-up “kill till the music stops” enemy waves and the odd hidden collectible....

Freelancer will now arrive as a free update for existing Hitman 3 owners on 26th January 2023. Before that, developer IO Interactive will run a Steam test for the mode in November - with details to follow later this month on exactly when it will start and how it will work. Earlier this year, IO revealed the first rough details of Freelancer, which will see Agent 47 set off on a series of roguelike missions from a customisable safehouse....

First up, we have a better look at Ambrose Island, Hitman 3’s new and free map. It’s a tropical romp full of sandy shores, lush vegetation… and more than just a few places to hide a body. Sounds right up 47’s street. The map will additionally bring new items for 47 to unlock, including a swashbuckling Kukri Machete, the Guerilla Wetsuit and a Molotov Cocktail to name a few. IO has also revealed the opening cinematic for the Ambrose Island mission, which has some familiar faces as well as new targets within....

The problem, if you’re unfamiliar, arose from Hitman 3’s new access pass system, enabling players to unlock locations from earlier games in the trilogy. Newcomers will need to pay to access those levels, but those that already own Hitman 1 or 2 can access them on the same system at no additional cost. In theory at least. While that’s certainly the case on PlayStation and Xbox, PC players hit a snag connected to Hitman 3’s Epic Store exclusivity....

There are no loot boxes in Overwatch 2, in case you didn’t know. In their place are a battle pass and in-game store, where you’ll directly buy what you want, using a new currency called Overwatch Coins. The Overwatch 2 battle pass has two tiers, free and paid, and you will be able to unlock all new Overwatch 2 heroes on that free track. New heroes will be unlockable at tier 55, of around 80 total tiers....

For the 2022 Halloween event, you need to complete Fortnitemares quests in Fortnite to unlock special rewards at the 5, 13, and 25 quests completed milestones.
